NOW PLAYING: WATERMARK, Version 2 Enya If there are no dogs in Heaven, then when I die I want to go where they went. In memory of SANDI FOLTA, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge and joined our many Airedales on January 30, 2003. SANDI'S IN MEMORIAM GUEST BOOK HEART OF TART [Texas Airedale Rescue Team] Artist: Roberta Sparr On Thursday morning, January 30, 2003, ROBERTA SPARR writes: Some of you wanted a bit more information about HEART OF TART animals. Marti [Touchstone] mentioned Motley, the Kerry Blue cross, up in the left hand corner, then there is Purl, the cat, rubber gloves to me had to be Alice or Bingley and Cha Cha is next to Sandi under cover . . . The bird with the heart is Goo-ber. Goo-ber died this summer. Sandi was very upset and told me about Goo-ber. He was a recessive violet parakeet. The illustration I did for Valentine's Day held a special significance for Sandi because of her love for Airedales, a love for Lee, and the bird I have with a heart in its beak reminded her of Goo-ber. I told her last summer I would look for a piece to put Goo-ber in. When I showed Sandi the sketch of the work and she was discussing it light-heartedly, she came to Goo-ber and she touchingly said, "Thank you." One of the things that struck Sandi with the Wedding Party was the bones on the cake and Steve's coat and bow tie, hence, the bones on the scrubs. Sandi also loved the yellowed paper in Wedding Party. The HEARTS, Sandi's heart, and the emotional heart all represent Sandi and are meant to give her strength. I asked Sandi if she wanted a better likeness of things that I would need some photographs, but she liked things as they were. The impressions in an artist's mind for a friend. PLEASE KEEP HER IN YOUR CONSTANT THOUGHTS. She is one of the kindest, biggest HEARTS that Airedales have . . . the true HEART OF TART. On Thursday night, ELLANA LIVERMORE writes: Dear friends: Sandi is gone. I wish I had eloquent words to mark this sad night. Lee has asked that memorials be made in Sandi's name to your local Airedale rescue group. Your prayers and Zen have supported Lee this week and especially tonight. From Australia, SUE FORRESTER writes: The news we all prayed we would not hear. May her airespirit fly fast to all our airekids, all waiting to clasp her in their arms. There are hundreds of them waiting. I can hear such heartwrenching grief all over the world, there is a stillness which can only be our own hearts stopping too. Let us all hold each other's hands and paws, and enfold Lee and their furkids close in our love for Sandi. Sue, Bill, Alice, Aemon@HWC & Baby Ascha in an even sadder Australia CANNIE ROBBINS writes: Tonight I can't help but think of John Donne's words, "No man is an island." Sandi affected everyone who ever came in contact with her. She infected them with laughter; she was clever and full of wit and a clownishness (no doubt caught from her Astrodales) that was so endearing. All mankind is of one author, and is one volume; when one man dies, one chapter is not torn out of the book, but translated into a better language; and every chapter must be so translated . . . Sandi has not ceased existing! She is very much alive! Only her "earthsuit" is worn out, but not HER. And we will all follow in her footsteps one day. No man is an island, entire of itself . . . any man's death diminishes me, because I am involved in mankind; and therefore never send to know for whom the bell tolls; it tolls for thee. Certainly we can attest to this, that Sandi's death diminishes me, diminishes us all individually, AND collectively. She was one who helped make this List feel like family. I DO feel diminished, don't y'all? God bless you, dear Queen of TARTS and Queen of her many friends' hearts!! Godspeed, Sandi. We love you. Cannie, Buck & Ripken San Antonio TX (All quotations are from John Donne's Meditations XVII) Marti writes: Alice Folta is a rescue foster who never left. Sandi called her "Alice da Malice" because Alice is very clear about expressing her likes and dislikes in, shall we say, a gutteral tone? From Australia, JENNIFER WILCOX writes: Although we didn't know Sandi, Layla, Merlot & I share the sadness you must feel right now. Clearly Sandi was an absolute gem and her radiance will live forever. Our love and friendship is with you across the miles. MARILYN DOUDT [North Texas Airedale Rescue] writes: The Airedale world and rescue has lost a loved part of their family. I worked with Sandi here is Texas with Airedale Rescue. Sandi kept the data base for rescue in Texas so many weeks her and I sent several e-mails to each other. I would e-mail her each dogs story that came in North Texas for the data base. She was always there to give me support when needed when the stories were very sad about the dogs. She would be happy when we found that perfect home for one of our dogs. She was such a important link to rescue here in Texas she will be greatly missed. So many dogs lives were saved because of her. When Penny was going through chemo this summer she would check in with me often to see how she was doing. She was so compassionate about animals. I will miss Sandi and appreciate the time I did know her. My thoughts and prayers are with Lee in this difficult time. I know Sandi is in heaven in the special place where people like her go. Goodbye, Sandi; I will never forget you. Marti writes: This is Sandi's baby, Cha Cha. I believe she was bred by Sandi's good friend Becky, who so faithfully kept Ellana posted on news from the hospital so Ellana could tell all of us. JEANNE GLENN writes: It has always seemed that there is probably a special place in heaven for everyone who does animal rescue work. There was no doubt a huge escort committee and special parade at the Rainbow Bridge to honor Sandi. Souls who live their life in the great spirit of generosity, patience, compassion and humor are truly angels on this earth. Also, Zen to everyone who is struggling with the loss of Sandi, their beloved pets or ailing family members. The extended family is here for you. Jeanne, Larry, Karma, Mugzy & Missy MONICA MAHN writes: My heart is heavy and the tears just won't stop. Though I didn't know Sandi, anyone involved in ADT rescue is family. From the posts on this list Sandi sounds like a very special woman . . . . May we all meet someday! My thoughts and prayers are with her family. Monica with Teddy & Kodi Marti writes: One reason we have no decent pictures of Sandi and Lee's visit in October is because she forbade them. "No pictures," she demanded, "I'm tall and thin on the internet!" And this one is no gem, and not very flattering of that extremely attractive woman, but it's Sandi & Lee in the midst of dogs and that part is pretty typical. PATRICIA WEBSTER writes: Our condolences also to Sandi and her family and friends. It is truly a sad day when we lose one of our own.
