Well, after several adult ADT rescues, I think I finally lost my mind,
and got an Airedale Puppy! The last Airedale puppy I had was in 1998!
I've forgotten how exhausting they are lol.

Ziggy is being good and learning quickly from his older brothers.

CHRISTA FIORE:
How wonderful! He's adorable. Congrats. Fun in store for you . . . .

Anim

PATRICIA YARNOT:
Congratulations on your new furbaby!

Anim

LIBBY KARIER:
Oh congrats! Ziggy is adorable. Wishing you a happy life together.

Anim

ANDREA SHAFRAN:
OMG! Ziggy is adorable! Congratulations!

Anim

CHUCK RUSK:
Good luck, Jane. The reason puppies are so cute is so we don't strangle them when when they do something like dig a hole through a favorite piece of furniture (like the mattress on your bed) or some other dastardly deed. Somehow I kept my sanity and didn't succumb to the cute furry face of an Airedale puppy. I have my doubts on whether or not I would survive another Airedale adolescence. Such a sweet puppy face.

Anim

JACKIE IKE:
Precious!

Anim

LINDA DOERING:
Handsome young Ziggy. I have a Ziggy, too, an eight-year-old female rescue. Have fun!

Anim

V'LOU OLIVEIRA:
Ziggy is so cute. I want every Airedale puppy I see. I'm not sure Blue would be happy though.

Well, Ziggy is a big boy now.

ADTHOME ADTHOME

He's around 60 pounds and still growing. He'll be eight months old tomorrow.

He loves the water, exploring, snuggling and his big brother Charlie (rescue ADT).

His elderly (almost 16), Wheaten brother, Teddy, finds him a pain in the butt!

He wakes me up in the morning with a thorough face washing!!

But I love it!

ANDREA SHAFRAN:
Lordy - 60 pounds and still has a puppy look!

The Zigmeister is growing into SUCH a handsome lad, Jane, congrats! Bet he keeps you 'n' Charlie on your toes but I wonder if ol' Teddy will ever forgive you for bringing a rambunctious young pup into the fold.

I know I don't post often, but I have a rant,
and this would be the place where people understand.

I have Ziggy, as everyone knows;
he turned a year old in February and got a puppy for his birthday.
Really I just wanted someone for him to play with,
as Charlie is getting elderly.

Meet Lenny, the black sheep of the family.
His daddy is an Airedale, mama is Airedale and Kerry Blue.
Half the litter was black and tan, the rest black.

Anyway, training is going great for both;
sit, stay, come to clicker, wait for release before eating, etc.

Getting them to stay OFF of people is a challenge, BUT it is getting a lot better.
I have people who won't come in the gate as my dogs "jump".
They won't give them that chance to settle down.

I've had some people say, "I would have gotten rid of them."
My response to that is, "And that is why so many end up in rescue,
because people do not research and/or give them half a chance to settle down!"

Rant over!

This is Lenny; he's 3/4 Airedale
and 1/4 Kerry Blue
Most of the litter was Black & Tan.
Lenny was the bully
of the litter apparently.

He's a sweet boy, smart as a whip
And the most destructive puppy/dog
I've had. I'm on four acres,
and have a dog door and fenced area for the boys.

This past week, I did 400'
more of fencing, and decided
they had more than enough
room to run.
They explored and had a blast
until Lenny got out.

After that, I closed off the new area;
after six months being here,
he decided to find
a way out of the old area.

ADTHOME

Twice he ended up at the neighbours;
she suggested I give him back to breeder and
get an older dog, or I put a shock collar on him.
She has two elderly Chihuahuas and thinks he'll kill them.
The way she carried on, you'd think he was there nonstop.

Against my body and health's wishes,
I spent two days putting fence along the bottom,
chain-sawing up fallen trees, etc., for weight
and wearing myself out.

I had to text her every time I was letting him test my repairs.
I felt like I had to report in.

He hasn't gotten out for over a day now.
I think it's good.
I explained to her that I will keep working with him;
as a volunteer of Airedale Rescue for over 10 years,
I know what his life would be like shuffled from home to home.
I will not give up on this boy. He's sweet, he's affectionate,
and smart. Just a troublemaker. We will get past this.

Sounds like you are doing a great thing! Keep us posted. Some people are afraid of big dogs!

JACKIE IKE:
Gorgeous!

CHRISTINE FIORE:
What a handsome guy!

MARE MOORE

Lenny is one heck of a handsome lad, Jane. Sorry though that he's posing such a challenge so HUGE kudos to you for not giving up on him (that's not 'you' anyway). We all know that many a lesser person would get rid of him as though he wasn't worth the struggle, but we all know that he definitely, is, so we support you in your efforts on his behalf despite how much it's hurting your body!

Sounds like your Lenny boy needs a job . . . scent work, tracking, agility or something that will occupy that busy brain and body as it does not appear that running/playing with his canine siblings is sufficient as he keeps looking for stimulation elsewhere? Sending Zen, positive thoughts & encouraging cyberhugs that you find the answers you need, Jane, hang in there, eh?!

Anim

JACKIE McGUINNESS
in England:
A job for Lenny is exactly what I was about to suggest. And a long lead for trying recall. Perhaps a child's sandpit with some toys in it that he has to look for.

JANE:

Thanks, everyone. Maybe starting to hide treats in a Kong
or something in the bush and make him go find?
Make it a game for him. His recall is great with a clicker
until he's following his nose!
He & Ziggy play like crazy, but I guess he needs more.

I will not give up on this boy. [I've s]een too many sad stories
over the years about Airekids people have given up on.
