On 19 October 2020, Shirley writes: I have been on all the Airedale lists forever. Airedales are my passion. Over the years I have had more than ten, Josh being my current boy. He is 11-1/2 and, sadly, probably my last. He is a joy and has developed from a rumbacious teenager into a wonderful dog, but aren't they all. I took Josh over when he was ten months old. I had Edie then as well. Josh was so excitable and barked and barked at any dog we would meet. I used to cross over the road to avoid confrontations, go out late at night. As the years have gone on he has calmed down, except where squirrels are concerned. He is everybody's friend, human or otherwise. On 2 December 2021, Shirley writes: Josh is still with us; he is 12 years 7 months, on various medications and his legs are failing, but he still has the Airedale spirit and love of his food. On 30 January 2023, Shirley writes: Our beloved Josh left us yesterday to join all of the Airedales we have loved and lost. He was 13 years 7 months; a good age, but still too soon. We shall miss him so much. Forty-odd years living with Airedales; how on earth will we manage? Much love to everyone on this list and long may it continue.
RAINBOW BRIDGE Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends. so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food,. water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable. All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor;. those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again,. just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing:. they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind. They all run and play together . . . but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance.. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver.. Suddenly, he breaks from the group,. flying over the green grass, faster and faster.. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet,. you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.. The happy kisses rain upon your face;. your hands again caress the beloved head,. and you look once more into those trusting eyes,. so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.
