After waiting for a few months for the right Airedale
to meet our parameters, Sunshine Airedalers' rescue coordinator
called us last week with news that a 4.5-year-old male
would be surrendered IF they would guarantee
that the home he would be going to was:
* With a person who was very Airedale experienced
* Had a home that was suitable for a large Airedale
* Was not going to a foster, but directly to the adopter.
The lady who picked him up said he was so sad and seemed downtrodden.
Not now! He's loving it in his new home!
Talking with the coordinator, we learned that the Airedale
was the odd man out in a blended family
(he was the husband's dog) and that he fought with the wife's dog.
He had spent the last two years in a SPARE ROOM
during the day by himself and when the family, including the wife's dog,
went to their bedrooms, the Airedale was allowed to be out
in the rest of the house until the next morning.
Then it started all over again.
Oliver's first day with Jeri & Ron
How could you not immediately say "yes"
and want to go get the Airedale right then and there?
Well, we could not go get him so we had to wait on pins & needles for four days
while [the owner] signed the surrender docs and
a team picked up Oliver (formerly Piper) and brought him to us.
After Oliver's first grooming.
Oliver is a dream, house broken, sweet as can be, a little on the overweight side;
he was clipped like a poodle, but a trip the next day
to Orlando for Karen Gunter managed to fix that.
He's not obedience-trained since he was pretty much left to his own devices;
it's a miracle that he's not a true menace.
He's just so sweet that you immediately fall in love with him.
He goes to the vet tomorrow for a full check-up,
since they were really "I'm not sure, might have been, I think"
kind of answers for his shots, etc.
He has problems taking Heartgard™, so we have to discuss that;
both ears are infected and he has two hot spots.
So my husband - who was so tentative to adopt him
BUT insisted on adopting him because he couldn't [bear to]
think of him being in that spare room one more day alone -
is mad about Oliver, fusses over him, goes for walks with us.
I'm not sure who rescued whom!
