Paula Lackner [ATRA] contacted me
today about an Airedale mix
that is in Ohio named Buddy.
He's about a year old
and has been DNA tested,
showing he's part Airedale.

ADT

He's up-to-date on his vaccinations and has been neutered.
I've been told that he's very friendly and gets along with other dogs & c*ts.
Doesn't seem to shed either.

Paula is going to check into transport to get him here from Ohio.
Wish us luck. We need a dog around here!

On 23 March 2021, Chuck writes: Thursday Transport

Yay! Buddy's transport has been confirmed for Thursday! Yippee-ki-yay.

Don't know much about him.
Someone found him
on the side of the road
and took him home.
She kept him for a while
and had DNA tests run
to find out what he is made of.
He's 37% Airedale, not sure what else.

She surrendered Buddy [f/k/a Kevin]
to Vicki of Iowa Airedale rescue,
we suspect because he was
"too much" for her.
Well yeah, he's a terrier.

Vicki is sending a list of his
likes and dislikes so we'll
find out from that. Likes to run
and play with other dogs.

He's coming from Waterloo, Iowa.

Buddy got here around 2:30
this afternoon.

What a sweetheart!
Almost got him to melt into the floor
when I was scratching his throat.

Played with him in the backyard
and Jay took him for a walk.

Maybe we'll share a pizza tonight
to celebrate.

He'll chase a ball but won't bring it back.
He'll wait for me to come and get it and throw it for him.
What do you know . . . he's crashed on the carpet next to my chair.

MARE MOORE:
HOORAYYYYYYYYYY! Congrats, Buddy, on finding a FAB forever home with
Chuck & Jay! May you all enjoy many years ahead sharing life, love
and making happy memories together!

Several decades ago I had a small random-bred dog
I named "Kilo" after a dog that my brother had in college.
Now that dog was picky about where he would poop.
Wind speed had to be in a certain range and coming out of the "right direction"
I could almost hear "when the moon is in the seventh house
and Jupiter aligns with Mars".

He sure took his time, except when the temperatures were below zero F;
then it was a case of just finding a spot where the snow wasn't too deep.
He sure didn't dawdle then. Ah memories.

ADT

Kilo was my first Airedale's best friend.
They were both naughty together.
Casey had just "liberated" my lunch of a hamburger and fries
from McDonald's. Wouldn't be the first or last thing he helped himself to.

Buddy slept next to me on his new dog bed.
He got up about 3 a.m. and pooped in the dining room.
The smell woke me up. I cleaned it up, took him outside for a bit
and then went back to bed.

Jay took him for a walk and he met the dogs of the neighbors
about 7 this morning. He hasn't really eaten anything
but grass since midnight. Of course that means he vomited.
He's doing OK otherwise.

He crashed out on the floor while I did my exercise bike thing this morning.
He doesn't get too far from me or Jay which is fine.
He hasn't been here 24 hours yet.

He doesn't bring the ball back. He'll bring the ball close
and then wait for me to get it and throw it again.
Not a big deal. Love the way he jumps in the aire and
pounces on the ball, He really gets into it.

Just for the record, I was reading Buddy's vet records today.
I thought he was a year old; he was actually two years old on March 24.
No big deal; just means I don't really have to deal with adolescence.
Works for me. This deal is getting better and better.

On 27 March 2021, Chuck writes:

So I was told that Buddy was well-behaved in the car.
I took him for a ride yesterday and he rode very calmly in the back seat.

Today I took him with me when I went to my favorite Mexican restaurant
for some of their wonderful beef vegetable soup (caldo de res).
He rode in the back on the way there.

When I came out of the restaurant, guess who's sitting in the driver's seat?
You guessed it - Buddy.

I tried to get him to go back in the back seat, but the Airedale part of him
took over and he just moved over to the passenger seat
and sat down like he owned the car. He regally sat there the whole trip home,
looking around at the scenery for the whole eight blocks of the trip.

At this point of our relationship (48 hours) I don't know
what he would have done if he would have seen another dog.

Onward Bound with Buddy.

ADT

He seems to have some big paws.

His position indicates that the 37.5% of him that is Airedale is showing itself . . .

ADT

He's just snoring away.

Anim

MARE MOORE:
It's wonderful, Chuck, to read that Buddy appears to be settling in so well
Hooray for you all, but especially Buddy! He's got the ADT
sleeping position down pat!

DENISE ST JOHN:
Sounds like Buddy is the perfect copilot!

On 4 April 2021, Chuck writes:

I took Buddy to the dog park again yesterday;
he had a great time with all of his friends.

He had such a great time that he panted all the way home in the car.
He also was very dirty and stank of dog poo. So dad here got to give him a bath.
It was a bit of a struggle, and I'm pretty sure Buddy got wetter than I did.

One thing that I thought was unusual was that he didn't
race around the house when it was all over.
He also stayed pretty close, which is fine by me.

He's definitely my dog now. Lovin' every minute of it.
Such a sweet boy.

On 5 April 2021, Chuck writes:

Some spoiled dog got to go to the dog park twice today.

This morning he wore out a standard Poodle and a Collie.

This afternoon he wore out a one-year-old Great Dane
and a six-mont-old Rottweiler. Buddy can run like the wind;
he can appear to spend more time in the aire than on the ground
when he's running. Other dog owners are amazed by his stamina.
I'm just glad that he's burning off that energy.

On 14 April 2021, Chuck writes:

His name may get changed to "Scruffy" yet.
I got a back-handed compliment at the dog park the other day about him:
"He is so cute because he is so scruffy looking". I agree with that.

He's my kind of dog.

We may not go to the dog park today.
It's too cloudy, cold, damp and breezy.
Which means stiff neck weather, along with other aching joints.
It's hell to get old!

On 24 July 2021, Chuck writes:

Took Buddy to the dog park early this morning to beat the heat.
We got there about a quarter to eight.
