The Scottie [pull toy I ordered from Germany] has arrived.
I was beginning to think they made her swim across the pond.
She is pretty darned cute, but definitely in need of some vet care.

She will have surgery on her tail, her wheels scrubbed
and a proper collar with a heart.

I found a woman with some vintage large ride-on
Steiff animals for sale in Anchorage. They are all in mint condition,
but also cost a mint. Why would I want one in mint condition?
After all, I seem to be stuck in rescue mode.

ADT

The Airedale had no ears and a broken tail, the WFT had a wobbly frame,
the Irish nearly no hair and a broken tail, and now this Scottie
with a raggedy coat, a hole in her tail and a cracked glass eye.
They are a pretty motley bunch, but like the real rescue dogs,
seem to clean up pretty well.

ADT

They do have character and have all been repaired to the point
their stuffing isn't falling out. I wouldn't turn down one in new condition
(especially if it fits into the Terrier group),
but there is satisfaction in patching them up,
somewhat like the real rescues.

I got her on Etsy from an antique dealer in Germany,
who found her in France in the same condition she came to me.
Before that, who knows? I am trying to figure out who her maker is.
My best guess is Steiff, but there are several other companies
that made somewhat similar dogs.
So far, I haven't found images of anything that makes me feel certain who made her.

It seems to be the original frame to the dog.
The bow is really just a ragged thing with a rusty bell that came with her.
It's not original at all. There were several old Scotties
made by Steiff that had wooden wheels. Steiff, Line Brothers and Chiltern
all used the same type of metal wheels with rubber tires,
but none that I can find were painted pink (actually sort of a peach/pink).
It does appear to be the original paint color on these wheels and frame.
I have read an article that said Steiff used what they could find
during the War and kept up production during those years.
The paint color wasn't always consistent on the wheels during those years,
but nowhere do I find this color.

Annie Curran mentioned that it could have been a special order
or maybe a sample toy.

The Airedale I have is the largest size and his wheels are normally blue,
but his are red.

It's fun trying to research this stuff. Sort of like pedigree research with Airedales.

For now, she is - Rosie, International Dog of Mystery.

On 17 FEBRUARY:

I am done for now. She is as clean as I can get her, her tail is repaired
and she has a new ribbon. Someday, she will have a collar and leash.

ADT

I have looked at photos and colors of Scotties and have decided that
she isn't all that faded, she is a wheaten Scottie.
I am not sure that's correct, but that's my story for now.

Call name RUCKUS, which he is totally living up to.

I have tried repeatedly for action photos, but the out-of-focus one
of him leaping is the best I have gotten. He is fast!

I travelled to Pennsylvania June 22 to pick him up and
returned to Alaska June 23. It was a crazy trip;
travelling during the pandemic at that time was insane,
but we survived.

He turned nine months old on 24 November.

I have so much hair to strip, it will be a process.

He is a funny crazy puppy and so much fun.

We have only one boy right now - Aries -
who was adopted from ATRA via Terry Kratchman.
We are so thankful for Terry and still miss her.

Aries is now 15-1/2 and he is getting a bit frail.

ADT

It's sad not to take our walks, but now we just go outside and
smell the air and sidewalk for 20-30 minutes and go back in.

We have had three Airedales over the years: Jake, Broose, and Aries.
