A good dog never dies
she always stays
she walks beside you
on crisp autumn days
when frost is on the fields
and winter's drawing near
her head is within our hand
in her old way.

AN OLD DOG

Now that no shrill hunting horn
Can arouse me at the morn,
Deaf I lie the long day through,
Dreaming firelight dreams of you;
Waiting, patient through it all,
Till the greater Huntsman call.

If we are, as people say,
But the creatures of a day,
Let me live, when we must part,
A little longer in your heart.
You were all the God I knew,
I was faithful unto you.

THE PASSING OF A DOG

This kindly friend of mine who's passed
Beyond the realm of day,
Beyond the realm of darkling night,
To unknown bourne away.

Was one who deemed my humble home
A palace grand and fair;
Whose fullest joy it was to find
His comrade ever there.

Ah! He has gone from out my life
Like some dear dream I knew
A woman may own a hundred dogs,
but one she loves, and true.

. . . INDIANA BONES, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge on October 13, 2002 and is greatly missed by Sally Babcock, who writes:

I was rolling my cart around the grocery a little while ago, passing up the pet aisle as I had just stocked up last week, when the music playing over the background speakers hit like an avalanche was covering me with boulders. I find it absolutely ironic that this song played there and then, but the words are perfect for Indy and me.

This is Kenny Rogers' Through the Years

I can't remember when you weren't there
When I didn't care for anyone but you
I swear we've been through everything there is
Can't imagine anything we've missed
Can't imagine anything the two of us can't do.

Through the years, you've never let me down
You turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you . . . Through the years
I've never been afraid, I've loved the life we've made
And I'm so glad I've stayed, right here with you
Through the years.

I can't remember what I used to do
Who I trusted, who I listened to before
I swear you taught me everything I know
Can't imagine needing someone so
But through the years it seems to me
I need you more and more

Through the years, through all the good and bad
I knew how much we had, I've always been so glad
To be with you . . . Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years

Through the years, when everything went wrong
Together we were strong, I know that I belong
Right here with you . . . Through the years
I never had a doubt, we'd always work things out
I've learned what love's about, by loving you
Through the years

Through the years, you've never let me down
You've turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you . . . Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years!

Tweed was the most amazing bouncing, grinning, bowing and glimmering boy, who lived a long, healthy, joyous life. I'd love for you to honor Tweed by sending him off with a play bow as you look skyward.
