A good dog never dies
she always stays
she walks beside you
on crisp autumn days
when frost is on the fields
and winter's drawing near
her head is within our hand
in her old way.

. . . RUFUS (Cdn. Ch. Jolee Aire William Rufus II), missed by Fred Brauen

Animated

. . . MAGGIE, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge on 3 April 2001 and is sorely missed by the McGill Family

He is very imprudent, a dog; he never makes it his business to inquire whether you are in the right or the wrong, never asks whether you are rich or poor, silly or wise, sinner or saint. You are his pal. That is enough for him.

-- Jerome K. Jerome

. . . EILY O'GRADY, barely six years old, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge in May 2001 and is sadly missed by Mr. & Mrs. Dan Jensen

Run . . .
Darlings of the fields,
Beloved of the woods.
Run to a better place,
Run for the joy of it, Run to feel the wind on your face.

And as as you run,
Feel the fears and neglect
That the human world dealt you
Slide off your backs.

Carry only one thing
From this plane -
Love from the humans who cared,
The humans who would have helped
If only they could,
The humans who mourn your passing,
The humans who wish you peace,
The humans who send you bright stars to steer by,
The humans who love.

Run free.
Run loved.

. . . BRIGGSIE, who unexpectedly crossed The Rainbow Bridge on 27 June 2001 and is greatly missed by Dan, Miss Cookie & Hans Fernandez

For if the dog be well remembered,
   if sometimes she leaps through your dreams actual as in life,
   eyes kindling, laughing, begging.
   it matters not where that dog sleeps.
   On a hill where the wind is unrebuked and the trees are roaring,
   or beside a stream she knew in puppyhood,
   or somewhere in the flatness of pasture land
   where most exhilarating cattle graze.
   It is one to a dog, and all one to you,
   and nothing is gained and nothing lost -- if memory lives.
   But there is one best place to bury a dog.
   If you bury her in this spot,
   she will come to you when you call -- come to you
   over the grim, dim frontiers of death,
   and down the well-remembered path and to your side again.
   And though you may call a dozen living dogs to heel,
   they shall not growl at her nor resent her coming,
   for she belongs there.
   People may scoff at you,
   who see no lightest blade of grass bent in her footfall,
   who hear no whimper, people who have never really had a dog.
   Smile at them, for you know
   something that is hidden from them.
   The one best place to bury a good dog
   it is in the heart of her master.

. . . JESSIE, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge early in 2001 and is greatly missed by Trish Sweeney

I miss the little wagging tail;
I miss the plaintive, pleading wail;
I miss the wistful, loving glance;
I miss the circling welcome-dance.

I miss the eyes that, watching, sued;
I miss her tongue of gratitude
that licked my hand, in loving mood
when we divided cup or food.

. . . ABBY, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge on 16 June 2001 and is sorely missed by Kay & Dennis Ortseid

I miss the pertinaceous scratch
(Continued tilI I raised the latch
each morning), waiting at my door;
Alas, I ne'er shall hear it more.

"What folly!" hints the cynic mind,
"Plenty of dogs are left behind
To snap and snarl, to bark and bite,
And wake us in the gloomy night.

Animated

. . . KATIE, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge on 30 June 2001 and is very much missed by Kitty Sweeney

"You should have sought a human friend,
Whose life eternal ne'er could end -
Whose gifts of intellect and grace
Bereavement never could efface."

Plenty of snarling things are left,
But I am of a friend bereft;
I seek not intellect, but heart -
'Tis not my head that feels the smart.

. . . MISSY, who crossed The Rainbow Bridge in July 2001 and will be forever missed by Jim & Nancy Doty

While loving sympathy is cherished,
While gratitude is not quite perished;
While patient, hopeful, cheerful meeting
At our return is pleasant greeting;

So long my heart will feel a void -
Grieving, my mind will be employed -
When I, returning to my door,
Shall miss what I shall find no more.

. . . LACY (Ch. Traymar's Eleganct Lady Day), April 1, 1987-July 11, 2001, loved and missed by Yvonne Michalak, who writes:

Lacy was greatly loved and still a beautiful Airedale to the very end . . . She was our Faithful Friend, Loving Companion, and always could be counted on to have her nose up to the dining room table at dinnertime! She was a grand old Airedale, loving and dignified to the very end of her life.

When we, at last, shall pass away,
And see no more the light of day,
Will many hearts as vacant mourn -
As truly wish for our return?

Yet love that's true will ever know
The pain of parting. Better so!
"Better to love and lose" than cold
And colder still, let hearts grow old.

So let the cynic snarl or smile,
And his great intellect beguile,
My little dog, so true to me,
Will dear to heart and memory be.
