On 5 February, Lesley writes: Beau will ride the rails today in the second leg of his journey. He will have four hand-offs and stay overnight with Mike Marzo. If all goes well he will be in his Forever Home by tomorrow night!
So please keep Beau and his chauffeurs in your thoughts today for a happy and safe journey.
Beau with Paula Falk
On 5 February, Karl Broom writes:
Beau crossed the Mason-Dixon line a short time ago and is heading north. I met Paula Falkin Warrenton and had an uneventful trip to Laurel where I passed him on to Jack McLaughlin. Beau snoozed most of the trip!
Beau is is a skinny little fellow. I was having a hard time picturing him slipping thru the rails onGeri's deck. Not anymore. He is shy, quiet, and well-mannered. Get a little meat on that boy and he'll be just fine.

Beau with Jack McLaughlin

Jack writes:
Picked up Beau from Karl right on schedule and was on the road north at 11:00. Met Kate Middleton at the Swedesboro exit of the New Jersey Turnpike almost as planned. We talked for a couple of minutes while she let Beau stretch his legs and visit some posts. He has yet to learn to be a real dog when he goes. Very nice, friendly guy, as previously mentioned, just a bit timid but he likes girls better than men. It took me about five minutes to get him to bring his tail up. He wagged it almost right away for Kate.

Beau with Kate & Ed Middleton
Kate writes: Beau should be close to Mike's where he'll stay for the night. Ed & I found everything everyone said so far to be true - he's very, very sweet and somewhat timid. With very little prodding, he did act a bit silly and a bit playful with a dry oak leaf. And he was curious about everything - definitely an Airedale!
I'm not sure how much of what he knows June taught him, but he did signal to go to the bathroom and walked well on leash. While waiting for Mike, we let him go up and down a flight of four stairs. He hesitated a bit before going down, and was proud of himself at the bottom. I think he's going to be very happy to have a home. And I think the home will be happy to have him.

These train runs are momentous occasions, and they certainly warm my heart though I'm just a bystander this time. The posts everyone is writing are wonderful. Keep up the great work!
Judy Dwiggins writes:
I agree. Thank you for making us feel like we're part of the wonderful adventure.
