NOTE: WE HAVE A LOT OF TURKEYS LIVING IN TARPON WOODS;
MANY OF THEM RIGHT AROUND OUR HOUSE.
However, I'm confining myself to the feathered kind here.
Because we live in an area that is, technically, a conservation area,
and because we live adjacent to Brooker Creek Preserve
AND we are surrounded by Tarpon Woods Golf Course,
we see more wildlife than we would in other subdivisions.
(We had a herd of deer living in the yard next door;
the house was empty for quite some time and the grass was left to grow.
When the house was sold and the grass cut, the deer left the yard.)
Our first experience with wild turkeys was on 31 December 2017,
when this "gang" marched up our sidewalk,
all the way to our front door . . .
. . . when we didn't answer the door and give them food,
they walked away . . .
The artificial berries on that artificial wreath were chewed by deer.
They will eat almost anything!
They then checked out the Live Oak tree (which is no longer there) . . .
(As with the cardinal pics, the above were taken thru a slider and a screen.)
. . . and then the gang marauded over to the neighbor's yard,
perhaps to find something to eat there . . .
I spoke with the previous owner of our house; no, they never fed the turkeys,
so I've no idea why they were coming to visit.
A Turkey Welcome Wagon, perhaps.
We see wild turkeys quite often; one evening, we heard a tom turkey gobbling
and discovered him in the tree by the pond across the street.
Marie has given me permission to go into her yard overlooking the pond,
so I went to take a look (as did she), and there he was,
at the tippy top, calling to his harem.
Did you know turkeys can fly? THEY thought so.
Only when turkeys are in the yard can I take pics,
so the next time I was able to take pics was 26 June 2019 . . .
