Whilst working in the yard,
I heard a limpkin calling from Marie's Pond.
HERE is their call.

They don't usually vocalize during the day,
so I wondered what was going on.

Soon, this bird walked down Marie's driveway,
across the street and into our yard.
I grabbed my camera . . .

What was so striking
was that s/he was grumbling
all the while . . . as tho maybe
s/he'd been thrown out
off the nest or something.
They eat only one kind of snail,
so maybe the pond was out of 'em.

I watched him/her walk down
the sidewalk, grumbling all the way.
There is another pond just a ways
down the street, but wouldn't
it have been easier to FLY there?

HERE is a fun video about limpkins, showing the apple snails they eat.

What really irks me (remember, I said unfeathered turkeys live here)
is how many complaints there are on NextDoorTarponWoods
(a neighborhood online forum) about the noise that limpkins make
and the fact that we have coyotes, alligators & deer in the area.
HELLOOOO! Did you not KNOW you were moving into a
conservation area, and that Brooker Creek Preserve is right next door?
People can be so asinine.
