I couldn't pass up a chance to wish Bob well on his retirement. We go back a long way together.
I actually remember him walking past our house to get to elementary school when he was just a young child. I never got around to telling him that before.
Then, we became really acquainted when I was taking my library certification at Dominican College. Bob was the librarian there at the time. He was painstakingly changing their library system from Dewey to LC. After all that work, Dominican folded in a few years so all that work was for nothing. I also had Bob as a teacher in one of my classes --- Cataloging, I believe. He was very good --- very organized. And so much fun!!! All my other classes there were with nuns and the dear souls were pretty serious about the whole thing.
Next thing, he turned up at Reuther. We hit it off right away as colleagues. I liked his quirky sense of humor --- not what you expected to find in a librarian. Of course, I don't think most of the Kenosha school librarians were actually what you would call stuffy. At first, Reuther was next-door to Bullen so it was convenient to trade things back and forth without waiting for inter-school mail.
One year we took a computer course at Parkside together and Bob used to pick me up and take me along with him. We had a lot of fun learning Boolean Theory and applying it to computers. I didn't realize at the time that I was going to actually use computers in my daily life. The way the class was run, it seemed like computers would be more work than they would be worth.
For several summers, Bob was the librarian for summer school at Bullen. Each year, he would leave me with one of his wonderful bulletin boards. One year I came back to Funky Winkerbean and his air guitar. When I retired, I passed it on to my sister-in-law who was an English teacher in MN. She and her students loved it, too. She is retiring this year and says she is going to have a raffle among her students to see who gets it.
You know, Bob, I haven't seen you for 15 years and you look just the same in your pictures on the Web. I hope you enjoy your retirement as much as Jim and I have.
If you ever have a chance to get to Arizona, be sure to give us a call. We senior citizens are big on going out to lunch.
Best regards

Dear BobAndréa'sBoss,
Like many who will sign your guest book, I've never met you but, through Andréa, feel a kinship with you. Like you, I was a librarian in another life - school, public and university - I currently teach library science for a university.
In the school system, enough suddenly becomes enough and retirement gleams like the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. May your pot of gold be full of wonderful things besides the traditional yellow stuff - anything your heart desires. I wish you very well on your retirement. I know we will all miss the stories about BobMyBoss. I hope there will be a whole new crop about BobMyBossWhoRetiredToEnjoyLife!

Remember, when you retire, you can wear old baggy clothes every day, play with your toys without interruption, nap whenever the urge hits . . . |

. . . go fishing . . .

. . . and eat out at gourmet bistros

Cheers!
