BOO BOO GOES HOME!

____ 2008

FosterDad Andy writes:

I know Boo Boo was not to be my dog; I was just fortunate enough to be with him during a part of his life. Boo Boo has now joined the Diplomatic Corps, as he has been adopted by Canadian diplomats who live in Washington, DC. His new Dad is a stay-at-home-writer, so Boo Boo will never be alone. He has a new Mom, the diplomat, who is going to spoil him and give him the life he deserves.

When I last wrote, Boo Boo was on high dosages of Prednisone. That cured his open sores, sore eyes, lumps under the skin, itchy skin - all of it! We worked with the vet to gradually reduce the dosage and after being on a dose of 20mg a day, he is now on 5mg every other day, with the intention of getting 100% off soon. Each time we reduced his dosage, he had no problems.

What was so great was to see Boo Boo become a normal puppy. As you know, he was very sick and even though he tried to make the most of life, his sores and his eyes took a toll on him and it was often that his foster brothers would play and he would rest in his crate.

CRUSA and all the people who sent money and prayed for Boo Boo saved this little guy's life. There is no other way to put it . . . we literally saved his life. The owner who surrendered him first tried the shelter, where she was told he was too sick and would be put down. That is when the owner made the right call to put Boo Boo in CRUSA's care. With your help, we raised enough money to figure out what was wrong and fix it. Your donation made him a healthy puppy.

When you think of Boo Boo, know that he is running around his big new house (with a puppy door into a nice, secure yard), playing with his stay-at-home Dad, running up to greet his new Mom when she comes home from work; and when he rolls himself into a ball at the end of their bed, it's all because of you.

Boo

Bruce & Carolyn write:

An early progress report on the wonderful Boo Boo. He has settled in like a pro - no pining for the fjords (as Monty Python would say) or acting crazily. Despite the terrible heat, he looks forward to his three daily walks (shortish in this weather). He nearly has the concept of the dog door, but only one way. We'll work on that. He took his Prednisone last night with a smear of cream cheese: down the hatch in the wink of an eye (or a flick of the tongue).

He loves sleeping on the bed; last night he spent with our houseguest Susan on the pull-out sofa, and slept right through the night. We'll probably get him a set of stairs for the big bed, which is slightly too high for him to jump up.

Thanks again for all the supplies you generously left with us for him.

His appetite isn't quite back yet, but he seems happy with nibbling. I have to move slowly in the kitchen, because (a) he blends in with the tile floor and (b) he has an unerring ability to cruise around in my blind spot to the sides or back. I think he's hoping for dropped food; we've limited his treats to one a day to start.

In sum, he appears very healthy and in good spirits - a terrific little trooper, thanks to your foster-parent devotion and loving kindness.

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.

Hmm . . . Yes there it is, right on the top -
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.

I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things
And take me right back?

Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never re-pack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?
