BUDDY'S THIRD
SQ FLUID THERAPY,
IN PICTURES

19 OCTOBER 2016

Buddy literally BOUNCED
his way to my car to go
to the clinic this morning . . .

. . . where Vet Techs
Jennifer (shown left)
& Christine
(right in pics below)
gave him #3 of his
thrice-weekly
Subcutaneous
Fluid Therapy . . .

Dr. Hathaway writes:

I saw him come by again today for his fluids and he did well again!
Always a trooper and looking SO handsome!

His condition is likely going to progress over the next few months.
Usually there is not much we can do to "reverse" it,
but rather we work towards maintaining it (trying to stop the progression)
and to help treat nausea as it develops to try and keep him eating.
Specialty centers (like University of Florida) do offer dialysis and/or
kidney transplants if interested in something more aggressive to try.

To which I replied:

Dialysis and/or transplant? I don't think so . . . not on a 16-year-old dog.
Too much trauma that I couldn't 'splain to him.
I will give him as good a life as I can, and an easeful Bridge Crossing.
I said the same with RosieVi the Shy, and she lasted nine years, so who knows.

Dr. Hathaway writes:

I completely support the supportive care route (no pun intended).
I agree that dialysis and transplants are a little much for a 16-year-old man.
He is so lucky to have you! (And, I must add here, CRUSA)

With such an active social life
(vet on Monday, groomer on Tuesday, vet on Wednesday) . . .

. . . Buddy takes his naps whenever and wherever he can,
even sleeping on Mr. Purple, one of Heather's toys.

His next vet visit will be Friday; then he has the weekend to recuperate
before we start it all over again.

BOB ANDERSON:
What a trooper that Buddy is! . . . and definitely the right decision.

Anim

BJ ISAACS:
Bless our little guy. He's so handsome; love his PuppyCut!

Kiss that sweet face for me and as always, Andréa, thank you, thank you!

Anim

JACKIE IKE:
They are all beautiful! He still looks great for 16 years old!

Buddy's 16th birthday will be on
8 November 2016

DOREEN MUNDIE:
Sorry he has to go thru this, but he is a cutie . . . in some pics
he looks like a little fox! He is fortunate to have someone who cares;
many seniors just get put down! Hang in there, losing them is hard,
I know. His color is just gorgeous!

Anim

JUDITH JOHNSON:
I love mr purple! Do thank heather for sharing!

As you can see here, she got it back pretty quickly . . . .

Ph

I usually find several toys stored on the couch; they are her 'babies' . . .
and some have lasted for years without being ripped apart
by any of the House Dogs, Guest Dogs or Foster Dogs.

Anim

JACKIE McGUINNESS-PARKER
He is looking good. I agree about his care; he is too old to go through all the stress.
