l to r: Heather, SweeTea, Daisy (head only) & Buddy watch over me as I nap.
After more than a month on special k/d food,
Buddy had anoher blood test on 3 October.
On 5 October, Dr. Hathaway writes:
I have Buddy's blood work results and unfortunately
I have some not-so-great news . . .
His kidney values (i.e., Creatinine and SDMA) have continued
to increase despite our efforts with the low protein diet.
This is consistent with a poorer prognosis since his kidney disease
is advancing so quickly.
The good new is that he is still doing so well at home.
A lot of times we find their clinical picture (energy level, appetite etc.)
don't always reflect what we would expect with their
blood work results, which is good! At this point in time,
these values put him at Stage Three kidney disease (out of four stages)
and this may change after we get a urine sample.
How is attempting to catch a sample at home going?
After we get his urine evaluated, we will likely discuss starting
an additional oral medication or may discuss fluid therapy at home.
I am sorry to be the bearer of bad news today
I brought in a urine sample on 6 October, and Dr. Hathaway writes:
His urine overall looks unexciting,
just dilute which is consistent with his kidney disease.
No sign of infection, which is good.
I think continuing to keep him comfortable and loving on him is a great plan!
So, we work to keep him happy and healthy as possible and,
when the time comes, to give him an easeful Bridge Crossing.
At least it will be from a loving home, and not from a shelter.
JACKIE IKE:
As long as he is happy and feeling good is all we can hope for! Glad he feels loved!
DOREEN MUNDIE:
I am sorry to hear it . . . he needs you . . . one thing I learned in nursing . . . most of the time kidney failure is not a real painful thing, like cancer. Poor little guy . . . and you are right, he deserves a loving place to spend the rest of his life in and who could do better for him, than you.

Poor Buddy. It's great that you can help him stay happy and comfortable. Sometimes that's the very best we can do for these damaged and neglected pups.
PATRICIA YARNOT:
Poor Buddy. Maybe he was dumped so that he would have the best love and care that such a sweet boy deserves. What a kind and caring vet you've found. I agree with BJ, Buddy has the best home and person to take care of him
LINDA SAVAGE:
I am so sorry to hear this.
ELAINE ALGER:
I am sorry to hear this. At least he knows that he is loved in his later years.
BOB ANDERSON:
I think both Buddy & you are very lucky to have found each other . . .
MARILYN ROYLE:
I am so happy he has you and your family, Andréa. No better place to live. Thank you for what you are doing for Buddy.
BETSI GREEN:
Very sad to hear, but as everyone says, he will have loving arms to hold him until his time comes and a painless crossing knowing that he was cared for . . . .
MARY BING:
He is loved. And sounds like (as so many dogs), he has no idea of how sick he is. What he knows is that he is loved, which is most important of all. Thanks for all you're doing and being his loving home.
