BAILEY'S PROGRESS REPORT

16-22 MAY 2016

16 MAY

It's a battle but we've already picked up where you left off in building trust.
Bailey has such a good foundation from you and your crew.

He is crazy about food and has no manners. But he's learning.
I think the man gave him treats in the kitchen;
whenever Henry goes into the kitchen, he runs to be with him.

I'm teaching him to sit up. He's just about got it.
Hope to get a picture when he's good.

17 MAY

He loves people food. If there is a steak on the table waiting to be put on the grill,
Bailey's going to try and snag it.

He'll try and stick his nose into your plate if you put it down.
Of course it doesn't help that he is on a diet-and-exercise program,
I'm sure he's hungry all the time.
The three kids had fresh green beans last night as a treat.
That's how I got Bailey to sit up on his bottom.
He is enthusiastic about all kinds of food.

As far as manners,
he'll try to take Zooey's or Booker's treat out of their mouths.
He pushes to the front. He'll jump up and put his face into mine.

Guess he's feeling more comfortable here to be showing us these things.
Best part is he wants to do right, just hasn't had enough training yet.
Remember all of the things you taught him, like eating out of a bowl,
drinking water out of bowl, his name, housebreaking,
getting along with other dogs, going outside to walk on grass,
leash/halter training, crate training and more in the short time you had him.
You left me the finishing touches for which I am very grateful.

He sleeps on our bed in between Henry and me with Booker.

My guys work for their treats, carrot or bean, by sitting, lying down or sitting up.

BTW he's sitting with me at the counter
looking like he's reading what's on the computer.

18 MAY

Woke up this morning with Bailey under my arm,
head and legs tucked tight against my body.
He wants to sleep touching Booker,
but Booker gets too hot and moves.

Ever so happy every day that you let me take Bailey here for a visit
that's turned into a lifetime. He is truly what I needed
to heal that huge hole Max left. Even hard-core Henry is smitten.
Henry tries to be calm and gentle with him so he'll get in his lap.
Hasn't happened yet.

Bailey doesn't have any interest in hunting yet.
Maybe when he feels more secure.
He sat on Zooey and she just grunted and growled,
so he slid off. No snapping. My two are being so kind to him.
Maybe it's his age?

He was just on the couch rolling all around and he rolled himself
right off the couch onto the floor onto his feet and he's off.
Of course he does this silliness when I have no camera or iPad around.

He is so special. You said that early on . . . .

19 MAY

He's still a pill about the leash.
He lies down and refuses to walk without me present.
A work in progress on walks.

I showed Henry a picture from Bailey's website;
the series of pictures when you first brought the big galoot home.
Henry didn't believe he was as big as he was.
Now he's a believer.

21 MAY

I love this little boy more than I thought I could.
He lies on my chest and tucks his head under my chin and sleeps.
He has such an adorable puppiness about him.

Ph

He already comes to Bailey;
even if I mention his name,
his ears perk up.

CALL ME ANYTHING YOU WANT;
JUST DON'T CALL ME LATE TO SUPPER!

He and Zooey are forming a bond, more so than with Booker.

I left this morning while Bailey was out in the yard being a dog.
Henry said he ran around to all of the windows he could see into looking for me.
When he came into the house, Bailey raced all over trying to find me.
He hasn't left my side since I returned.

Bought him four toys of which Zooey has claimed two and Booker one.
Bailey didn't pick up a one!

Now I understand how you fell for this sweetheart so quickly.
Some kind of energy he exudes.

22 MAY

Bailey finally got over the newness of the toys I bought yesterday
and choose the yellow duck with a goose honker inside as his own.
I had to take it away from him so we could go to sleep last night.
It hasn't left his mouth this morning
except to eat a couple of blueberries with Zooey.

Bailey has been here nine fun-filled days.
He has sure livened up our home.
Bought toys for him yesterday keeping in mind my other two terrors
who live to destroy any and all toys. Bailey finally settled on this
duck/goose thing with a goose honker inside that won't stop honking
even if a dog puts a tooth through it.
Bailey is a cloth sucker so it's wet and gooey now.

The porker has lost another .4 pound this week; down to 19.6 puounds.
He's adding a bit of muscle, too.

Side view: getting an upturn in his tummy and a waist.

He can bark and run with this in his mouth without losing the toy.
Andréa, your home gave him a love of toys.

Zooey says, Hi! Tell mom to take me to the groomer!!!

All this chewing has worn him out!

MARILYN ROYLE:
Bailey's story is making me laugh and cry at the same time. And what a beauty he is . . . thank you, Andréa and CRUSA for rescuing this sweet special boy, and to Patricia and Henry for making him their own.
