On the Back: The Cairn Terrier was used to search for hiding foxes and other vermin. The breed is native to Great Britain and is believed to have originated in the Middle Ages. They were the most numerous on the Isle of Skye, one of the Scottish Isles. This little dog is usually 10-12 in. tall and weighs 13-16 lb. Their coats are hard and shaggy with any color being acceptable with the exception of white. The Cairn Terrier adapts well to city, country or the suburbs because of its minimal exericise needs. In addition, they also make adequate watch dogs.
