DHARMA CROSSES
THE RAINBOW BRIDGE

9 OCTOBER 2012

Teresa & Jerry write: A sad end for our family

I just wanted to let those at CRUSA who knew our
baby Dharma that she passed away this morning.
She had never been the healthiest dog,
but mostly in good health.

On Saturday, she stopped eating;
we could tell she was feeling not her normal self.
However, she still went out with Daisy and barked some.
Monday at 8:30 a.m., we were in the vet's office.
The bad news was he couldn't really say what was wrong.
He ran some tests and told us it could be cancer or
her spleen or maybe even something else.
He suggested some treatment but felt she probably wouldn't rally thru this.

Shockingly, she came home and immediately began to show signs of dying.
We were hopeful when she rallied and ate and drank.
Then she would have periods of gasping and not able to control her body.
About 3:30 a.m. she seemed alert and was holding her head up.
We were hopeful that she might be getting better.
Suddenly at 8:35 a.m. she stood up, walked off her mat
and started to heave like she was going to vomit.
She died there, held by my husband as we told her
we loved her and what a great dog she was.

Jerry made her a coffin and we lined it with a blanket
and put her favorite rabbit toy in with her.
She has been buried by the pond where she spent may happy hours.

We are both very glad we provided a home for our baby.
We know she was a happy girl here with Daisy and us
She came to us a fighter and she fought 'til the end,
but not for food or love; that was freely given.
We will miss her.

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of Heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing: they each miss someone very special, someone who was left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; his eager body begins to quiver. Suddenly, he breaks from the group, flying over the green grass, faster and faster. You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into those trusting eyes, so long gone from your life, but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross the Rainbow Bridge together . . .
