THROUGH HELL

21-23 FEBRUARY 2015

We left at 4 a.m.; Neal drove for several hours, started to fall asleep,
so I took over. Then, it began to snow . . .

FLORIDA

. . . and snow . . .

FLORIDA

. . . and snow . . .

FLORIDA

When it wasn't snowing, it was raining. Or misting. Or foggy. Cars in ditches.

FLORIDA

You realize, of course, that not one of the five dogs
is accustomed to walking and doing his/her business on leash.
Especially in rain, snow, sleet and on ice.
We soon became their May Poles, as they wound their way around us.

FLORIDA

At night, Rosie cried. And cried. And cried some more,
til I put her in this baby carrier I brought with me.
Then she slept.

FLORIDA

Of course, in the middle of the night,
she and any other dog so inclined wanted to go out again.

FLORIDA

Some of the major highways were closed, due to snow and ice,
so we spent one night in Nashville, TN, one in Valdosta, GA (nicest LaQuinta of all)
and finally made it to Florida on the third day.
I think we had snow all the way past Atlanta, as well as fog.
In fact, I think we had everything but a plague of locusts . . . and sunshine.

One of the tires would go flat at night,
so Neal filled it and then put in that canned stuff that seals tires;
the thought of unloading all those totes, etc., to change a flat was daunting.

In all honesty, I don't think I can make that trip again,
so I am probably stuck in Florida to the end of my days.
