THE LIVING ROOM
GETS A FOCUS
6 JUNE 2015
|
When we redid the Wisconsin house,
we installed an electric fireplace in the new living room.
The improvement in ambience and coziness was amazing.
So I thought I'd put one here, too, although in a somewhat lighter color.
I started looking online in March;
the only one I liked was not available at ANY Lowe's.
I even had someone from their headquarters check each and every one.
So I let it lie for the time being.
|
Now that all the furniture is in,
the room still needs a focus.
I decide to look again.
Again, Lowe's has
JUST the one I want,
but not available locally.
Aha, I think to myself,
get a Florida Zip Code
map and put in the
zip codes close to PH.
Which is what I do,
and I find one available
in LIGHT DRIFTWOOD
in New Port Richey,
less than 20 miles away.
I order it immediately.

|
|
THAT is the easy part . . .
now, how do I get it home?
Lowe's charges $80
for home delivery,
which seems exorbitant
for a 20-mile ride.
I email Joe the Contractor
to see if he or one of his crew
wants to earn a bit of cash. . .
yes, but we can't get
together on a date/time,
so that's a no-go.
|
|
Today, I go to Lowe's, just to see if it will fit in my car.
It does! (How I loooooove my Hyundai wagon!)
So now I have to work smarter, not harder,
to get it out of the car and in the garage . . . it weighs 125 pounds.
|
|
|
With a bit of leverage,
some pushing from inside,
the box slooooowly
settles onto the garage floor,
there to await assembly.
|
|
Now the only thing I have left to do is decide which wall
it should be against; pity that it has the corner thingie,
but there is no corner it will fit into.
I've already found art to hang above the fireplace.
Now all I have to do is arrange with Joe & His Crew
to come over and do some more jobs: assemble & place the fireplace,
put up some curtain rods [which entails drilling into cement blocks],
hang that heavy mirror, install a new front-door threshold,
some additional outlets in the media room,
plus anything else I think of.
