On 29 May 2007, Dave writes: Farewell Stevie
It is with deep sorrow that we mark the passing of our beloved Stevie to The Rainbow Bridge today.
Stevie lived with us here on the farm for 13 years. This has all come on rather suddenly and there is an emptiness here that we will never quite fill. If there are any words that would describe this moment they might go like this . . .
If tears could build a stairway,
Stevie was in charge of all the goings-on around here; he was never shy about warning potential trespassers, especially chickens, to keep their distance. He could always be counted on to race along the fence and bark at anything on the other side.
Many of you know that it is Stevie who appears on the home page of our website. He has handled that responsibility with great dignity & grace, never letting celebrity overtake his down-to-earth good sense.
Over the years we have heard from many wonderful people who found Stevie's pages on the web, took a look around, and were kind enough to drop notes to Stevie.
Although we are sad & tired, we think Stevie would prefer that we remember him as he was through the years. There are a few video clips of Stevie that can be viewed by clicking HERE. We hope that you will stop to look & to celebrate a few brief moments from Stevie's wonderful life.

From LIZZIE HURTT & CHESTER:
Oh no . . . Stevie was the first Airedale I met online. To me he is still - and always will be - a rapscallion younger member of the gang. For some time now I've had Stevie's card "Farm Airedale Esq." sitting on the bookcase in my hallway . . .
I don't know what else to say . . . . except lots of love & hugs to you all.
From LESLEY MATTUCHIO:
Oh Dave . . . we are so very sad here about Stevie's passing. Cameron, who is on the verge of 13, always thought he was such a hunk. We have had Stevie's photo magnet on our fridge for many years and it will remain there for many more.
Please accept our sincere condolences at the passing of a wonderful icon & beloved companion. I will hug my three today in memory of the Great Stevie.

From Kforkev:
Please accept cyber-hugs in condolence of the passing of Stevie. I viewed the video clips you posted. He was quite a guy! I share your sorrow at this time, in hopes of making your burden of grief a little lighter. Bless Stevie's Soul, Ongoing.
From MARE MOORE & QUINCY:
I am so very sorry to hear of your loss. I viewed your
wonderful snippets of Stevie's 13-year life (thank you SO much for sharing these; they were great!!!!); it is very clear that Stevie lived well and was very well-loved. My own old lad is but a few months younger as he will be 13 on June 6 . . . seeing those videos brought many a memory of my own back to the fore.
May you eventually find peace in your happy memories of him. I leave you with the closing line excerpted from a piece titled "Where to Bury a Dog'
"The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of its master."
In that one, single, most important place, our beloved pets never really leave us at all.
From CAROL WALKER & TREVOR:
I'm so sorry to hear of your loss. Thank you for providing his movies. He obviously was very loved & adored.
From PAUL DIGGINS:
My thoughts go out to you in this time of grieving - I watched all of the videos and saw what a beautiful boy he was (what place in China was he going for in that hole?)
They touch us so closely, these very special beings, don't they? I never knew a moment of your very beautiful boy, yet I am also touched by your loss. This is an amazing thing that they can offer us this connection & emotion. Most incredible.
Your chronicle of your Airedales (Inspector, Flicker, Skeeter, Shannon, Teddy, Jenny, Katie, Cinnamon, & Barnaby) tells a story of love & devotion that is very, very special and is, I am certain, worthy of writing - just the narrative information (and your beautiful poem) that go with pictures tell me that.
I also know that any Airedale that gets to spend its life with you is a most privileged Airedale indeed.
So - Godspeed, Stevie - you are in good hands as you have always been.
Take care of yourselves at the farm, Dave & Becky & gang.
Best wishes from Kuwait
If tears could build a stairway,
Yet finding you is what I need
From SALLY BABCOCK:
Stevie was one of the "mainstays" of Airedale-dom, and I remember him from Dave's cards & video clips. That Airedale always brought a smile, and as Dave put it, always seemed to be the top banana. This is, indeed, sad news, but what Dave wrote has such a positive effect, I can't help but celebrate Stevie's wonderful life.
From DAVE BARRETT:
Thank you all so much for your expression of sympathy. It has been a difficult week here on the farm. The warm thoughts of so many people have touched us deeply and made the sorrows easier to bear.
