Meet Encore Defiant of Shawndee, SAR Certified, known to his friends as "Indiana". SAR means "Search And Rescue". The history of Airedales is full of their heroic endeavors during World War I, and the Airedale intelligence, tenacity, and courage are now being utilized for SAR during peacetime.
Indiana & his Human Companion, Karen, were first certified for SAR on April 10, 1995, by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police under their Civilian SAR Service Dog Program in Alberta, Canada (yes, another Canadian Airedale!). They are active members of the Search And Rescue Dog Association of Alberta; they participated in searches in 1995 and 1996, and are presently preparing for re-certification in spring of 1997.
Karen & Indiana were members of the AIREDALE LIST, where Misha & April made their acquaintance. Karen's lovely art work is shown HERE. And we salute you, Indiana & Karen, for the great work you have done!
Indiana crossed the Rainbow Bridge in 2003.
I explained it to St. Peter,

CLOUSTON (@RB)
I'd rather stay here,
Outside the pearly gate.
I won't be a nuisance,
I won't even bark.
I'll be very patient and wait.
I'll be here chewing on a celestial bone,
No matter how long you may be.
I'd miss you so much, if I went in alone,
It wouldn't be Heaven for me.
