Late cold (60°F) diving today.
If the suit unzips again I may have to call the dive early because of cold.
I have been averaging 60-70' maximum depth
and 40- to 46-minute dives.
Some of our group are going up about 100 pounds of air ahead of me,
so I end up with over 500 pounds in my tank as I hit the boat.
I'd rather do that and stay with a buddy (mandatory on this boat)
than eke out a few extra minutes and come up alone.
Today we will (we hope) dive with iguanas, penguins & sea lions.
On the dive I skipped, the most interesting thing that happened was fur seals
that came in for about 30 minutes and cavorted with the divers!
Arrived in Cabo Douglas (Cape Douglas) for our first dive of the day.
We were hoping to see a mola mola, but it was a no-show;
we did see batfish, lots of king angels. The iguanas & sea lions!
They didn't show up on the first dive,
but by the time the second dive rolled around, the day - and lizards -
warmed enough that almost the entire colony hit the water.
Fantastic! Lots of up-close watching & photographing
the lizards diving, eating, swimming.
Also an appearance by a small octopus & a large sea lion.
I did three dives in 63°F water - and the suit unzipped each time.
There wa a fourth dive scheduled, but again I opted to skip it
and warm up in the hot tub, and work on journaling & editing photos.
So I just started editing some of the video I shot.
Did you know that if you shoot video with the camera in the UW housing,
you don't get any sound? Yeah, neither did I!
I did get sound when I was underwater -
that must be because it's a more dense medium.
They tell me I missed out on seeing 15 mola molas -
I said they could buy me a beer 'cause
they only saw them 'cause I didn't dive!
Last dive day tomorrow. Land touring and dinner,
then back to Baltra to fly to Guayaquil to catch the plane home.
At dinner the crew was again in formal dress,
this time to toast the passengers and the trip.
They also served us a Galapagos Thanksgiving "pelican" -
they don't have turkey. They knew many of us
(but not all) came from the USA and that it was as close
to Thanksgiving we'd be on the boat (that was their story).
In reality, it was a full turkey dinner.
