With our hearts breaking and more tears than I care to admit to, the decision was made this morning for Shade to cross Rainbow Bridge. She had been at the vet since last Saturday morning and no matter what we did, nothing was working. The vet was unable to pinpoint the cause of her failing other than it was time.
At age 11 years and two days, Shade had shut down, content just to wait for her life to end. She had not eaten in several days, bladder was shutting down and she was oh, so tired; her time had come and the decision was made to help her along, letting her go with dignity & peace.
Holding her close and receiving one last snuggle to my neck from her, she quietly crossed over Rainbow Bridge.
So many of you loved Shade; she brought smiles to all our faces. We were blessed to have Sashen (09/05/10) & Shade come into our lives in June 2010 when their owner kicked them both to the curb in South Chicago and left them to die at the shelter.
Taking in two old ladies until end of life was quite an experience, one that has torn our hearts in two, but one we are glad we were able to do for them. Their end of life came way before we thought it would.
We love you, Shade, our special ol' gal; say hi to Sashen and run free & happy, my baby girl!

Maybe that's why "Rescue Dogs&334; battle the odds and hang on . . . so they can experience dignity & peace before they cross The Rainbow Bridge.
