HANNAH IN MARYLAND GOES TO THE VET 8 SEPTEMBER 2014

Waitin' for the vet On 2 September, Linda writes: Dr. Cunningham's office called today to let me know that the second result from Hannah's urine test came back today and it shows she has high protein levels. So the vet wants me to start her on a senior dog food diet so her kidneys do not have to work so hard. Still waitin' for the vet On 8 September, Linda writes: Hannah went to see Dr. Hansen today. They did an exam, derm ear/skin cytology, three skin scrapes and swabbed both ears. Dr. Hansen said that this was one of the worst cases he has seen. According to her vet records she started having this skin issue and losing her hair back in 2008. She is on three different meds every day: Nizoral, Medrol, and Clindamycin; she has a medicated bath with Malaseb shampoo on Mondays & Thursdays; and we try to give her medicated Chlorhexidine mousse on her legs every day. Taking a scraping Dr. Hansen said I might start see hair growth in about six months, but he did not promise anything. He said that I am looking at 6-12 months before I might see any results. He said that this could have started with a simple flea allergy, but he is not sure. Taking more scrapings She has not gotten sick from being on the meds; eats very well and loves her snacks; getting along well with all the dogs without any issues. You would think she had been here all along. Too bad she wasn't or she would still have her hair. She no longer smells from the skin infection; you can let her sit on your lap or next to you. She sleeps through the night and is still housebroken. Her vet bill today with the skin scrapings, swabs, meds, shampoo and mousse was $330.75. On 20 October, Linda writes: Hannah went to see Dr. Hansen today and he gave her a good bill of health. He said that her skin really looks good and the hair is coming back in, but it will still take about one year, more or less. She only needs a bath once a week followed by the mousse treatment. She is still on her meds and needs to be rechecked in six weeks. Her skin is healthy enough to get her spayed. She does not itch or scratch herself anymore. Her vet bill today with the skin scrapings, swabs, meds, shampoo and mousse was $240.00. Dr. Hansen gives a 25% discount to rescue. Thanks again, everyone, for you financial support for Hannah.
