HURRICANE MILTON, RECONSTRUCTION

FLORIDA-STYLE

FEBRUARY & MARCH 2025

On 25 February, I wrote: IF THE WEATHER BE GOOD . . .

Neal called the fence company yesterday;
No, we don't know when we will work on your fence.

So he told the woman he would be calling his credit card company
and cancelling our down payment.

Suddenly, next week Wednesday & Thursday will be 'our days'.

This is what I mean about Florida incompetence and indifference.
I'm sure the neighbors are getting irritated
with the ugly fence we have exposed;
good thing we don't have an HOA!!

I wanted Neal to get a can of spray paint and write,
"COMING SOON! A NEW FENCE!! STAY TUNED!!!"
If the fence isn't in next week, *I WILL* do this, I swear!

With all the rain in the forecast, tho (yesterday was all rain, all day),
I don't know if it'll really be done then.

26 FEBRUARY: ALMOST ALL CLEARED

I drove by the hurricane debris field;
this was all that was left . . .

HURRICANE

. . . one pile of brush debris, which continued for a bit
behind that trailer.

The rest of the landfill was cleared and raked smooth . . .

HURRICANE

. . . and made ready for the next time.

As far as I know, this is the first time since H. Irma
in September 2017 that this landfill area was utilized.

HURRICANE

Let's hope it is another seven years before it has to be used again!

This entire area was overgrown with trees
before it was again used for H. Milton's debris . . .

HURRICANE

. . . I'm sure it will become full of palms again;
this is the tropics, after all, and plants grow like crazy.

I mentioned previously that the Azaleas were blooming valiantly
on the yard side of the fence . . .

HURRICANE

. . . they are a bit scraggly 'cause they weren't trimmed in the fall,
and as flowers bloom only from the new growth,
they couldn't be trimmed when all the other work was being done.
The hot pink flowers are just beautiful; they glow in the sunlight.

Lee, our yard maintenance person,
will trim them way down after they finish blooming
and next year they will be much more full (fuller?).

Sunlight reflection from the white fence will help all the plants along the fence line.

1 MARCH: THE PUMP ROOM

Neal thought this ugly fencing should be replaced
with the new fencing . . .

HURRICANE

. . . this area contains the pool pump and the irrigation pump.
The white vinyl will definitely be an improvement.

We are looking into some way to soundproof this fencing;
something that would withstand the Florida sun.
