And then came Wednesday . . . Lizzie had to go on her way.

We both agreed that the week had gone by way too fast.

So with a few tears & some smiles, we hug & wish Lizzie
a fond farewell. She waved to us as she left the station.

She's a little blurred but I think we all were . . . .

When Jim & I arrived back home,
the Airedales were outraged.
"Where's Lizzie?" they demanded.

"Gone off to continue her adventures," we said.

The Circus collapsed abruptly in sad little heaps like old coats someone had dropped randomly throughout the house . . . .

Then they brightened up as a thought struck them.

"When's she coming back?" they chorused.

It seemed like I'd no sooner got to Vancouver than it was time to leave. I had a brief two-night sojourn in Seattle again - Lydia & I were able to catch up again briefly: she took me to a superb little family Turkish restaurant and brought a little rescue package of goodies from Alice & Dave to sustain me come breakfast and onto the train. I discovered The Elliot Bay Book Store - much to my delight and the ravaging of my credit card.

As you can see, the train - the Coast Starlight - was pretty lavish. This is the newly restored 50's Parlour Lounge Car. They even had a wine & cheese tasting session!

The Coast Starlight took me out of the misty north and on South to sunny Sacramento. The station there has a great mural from the WPA days (couldn't manage the whole thing in one pic)

There I picked up the California Zephyr which would take me through the Sierra Nevadas, the Rockies, across Nebraska and Iowa to Chicago and my next Airedale fix.
