Our Katie is a busy girl!
Our little Katie, newly adopted in January,
is having her second puppy hood, we're sure
(probably the only puppy hood she has ever had).
We are always surprised at the things she does,
so we really have to be on our toes!
Yesterday, she managed to open the closet of our office
(sliding door that doesn't really latch),
and neatly remove a new squeaky toy I was saving for a rainy day.
This was in a bag that was tied up,
which she opened with her teeth or paws;
one would never know it had been opened.
She also took the tags off the toy (again, very neatly)
and proceeded to beat it to death,
then lay it gently in her little bed by the fireplace.
And all the while, we thought it was one she already had.
She continues to be very affectionate and loves to lie
in Jeff's lap when he reads his Kindle in the afternoons.
We have to "legislate" lap time since Frosty also
wants to be in Daddy's lap, but she never seems to mind
if she has to lie on a pillow or sit close to me while
I am working in the office (my lap seems to have holes in it).
She had been challenging Frosty; he became somewhat afraid of her,
but that continues to improve since we have worked hard
to make sure she isn't allowed to growl at him
or push him out of the way.
He is also starting to stand up for himself.
She is very prey-driven,
to the extent that she sometimes refuses to go potty when outside,
especially if she is on the trail of a squirrel or other critter
that has decided to make our fenced-in backyard its home.
She keeps us laughing and smiling every day -
she is a true Cairn through & through!
You know, just 'cause I'm named FROSTY,
I don't have to look HAPPY about being in the snow!
