TEDDY GOES HOME

What a bittersweet day today turned out to be.

Those of you who have done rescue for a while will surely relate to how I am feeling. I left New Orleans with Marti, Joey, & Teddy certain that if he did not fit in at my house it would not be hard to place him with a loving family.

After I finally realized my youngest dog was not going to adjust to another male in the home, it wasn't too hard to find a couple who couldn't wait to add him to their family of two female dogs. They live on a farm of 10 fenced acres with a dogrun that is a full acre on its own. They are very active and have permission to hike through their neighbor's farm to the river to take the dogs swimming.

What I didn't expect was my heart pounding in my throat as we drove away without him. I fell in love with him there at the Winn-Dixie facility and it was much harder letting him go than I thought it would be. I know he is better off with these new owners who loved him on first sight and more to the point, he & their dogs were already playing, but does it ever get easier? Does a little piece of your heart go with every dog you place? My hat is off to those of you who do this on a regular basis, I don't think I can ever do this again. Until the next time . . .
