Connie T. writes: A sales rep for Antech, the cytology lab, has been following Kekoa's website and was able to get the Antech Company - who did Kekoa's work-up - to donate Kekoa's bloodwork.

On 21 July, Ryan & Courtney write:

We have been keeping up with Kekoa's progress and the group postings daily. We never in our wildest dreams imagined that there would be this much support and this kind of devotion from so many people for our sweet little rescue dog from Hawaii.

In response to the suggestion about acknowledging our efforts (just a drop in the bucket compared to what has gone on since your group took over), let us just say that we appreciate the thought, but it is entirely unnecessary. The outpouring of generosity and compassion by so many has overwhelmed us. Your gift has been all your hard work and donations, taking over where we had to leave off, and the assurance that Kekoa is in good hands and has the best possible shot at a happy life.

We could not let our honeymoon end with the prospect of this sweet & spirited guy left injured and abandoned - and with all your help Kekoa is no longer destined for that sad fate. We owe all of you, not the other way around.

While it is a tremendously thoughtful gesture, Kekoa is already forever in our hearts and no gift is necessary to ensure that. Your continued efforts & updates fill us with gratitude. We thank you all from the bottom of our hearts and hope you will let us know if we can do any more to help.

PS We are registered for our wedding with the charity website, JustGive.org. Please let me know if your Airedale rescue is listed with them so we can add them to our registry.

On 27 July, Connie T. reports:

Second week: Kekoa's sutures were removed today from his hip and [it had] healed nicely; a bolt in his leg apparatus that had sheared off was replaced.

Kekoa is starting to put weight on his foot when walking slowly . . . this is so good to see. We all cried.

He is starting to play with small toys that he can get into his e-collar and his weight has gone up a pound.(41.8). We are watching this gain carefully as he doesn't need extra poundage at this time and it would be fat, not muscle weight.

Kekoa is something else . . . never a grumble or one sign of discontent. Holds extremely still while we use 16 Q-tips to clean his wires. I guess Gordon & I are keeping his stainless wires and area clean enough as we had to have our bottle of Chiorhex solution refilled.

He loves to sit outside beside us in the evenings with one or two of the other pups.
