Then began a series of emails back & forth:
SHELL [LEWIS] writes: Toni [Bonney] and Erica [Bergin] . . .
Clair & Anita Adams live in Thermopolis and adopted from me two years ago. They also fostered - very successfully - earlier this year. It would seem a "no-brainer" for them to take this dog - BUT, they do have two other Cairns - a male & a female, I believe. They are WONDERFUL people and would likely do this, but I would suggest showing them the OS form so that they could know what they're getting into.
This dog probably senses he's a big disappointment to them. Leaving the dog out in the country? Classy.
[This could be a euphemism for 'shooting the dog']
BTW . . . if we are able to take in this dog, these people don't know how lucky they are having someone so close.
TONI replies: You are not going to believe this. Anita & Clair KNOW this dog. He is keep outside all day in a fenced yard while these people work and the yard is behind their grocery store so they have met this dog. When I gave her the address and said it is Chester, Anita said, "Oh no, not Chester! He is the cutest dog there is. He will go quickly if we are not tempted to keep him"
She will check the OS form and email me back. She even said "Should we go get him tonight?", but I want them to send a picture also.
SHELL writes: You know . . . that actually crossed my mind for a fleeting second, but then I thought, . . . no . . . no way. You have GOT to be kidding me.
Well . . . that's terrific. Thanks for calling her, Toni. They are the SWEETEST people. When I was flying Gavin to them (and Andréa will remember this), they actually extended their stay in Salt Lake City because Gavin's flight kept getting postponed. It was the transport from hell but they never once complained. [Gavin was in the FRIDAY 13TH Rescue Mission of June 2008, which can be seen HERE]
TONI (re: the owner surrender's picture.):
Poor guy. He looks so alone and sad. Duncan may not have paid much attention to him.
ANITA tells us:
I just had a very good visit with Stacey [the desperate owner]. She was very honest with me about Chester and some of his bad habits. I don't think there is anything that we can't work with. We will do our best to help him correct those and be an enjoyable dog to have around. She will get his vet records and we will pick him up sometime Friday.
Maybe it's because we know him, but Chester just fits. We agree, we think he is still just a puppy and needs lots of TLC and and some training. [Chester is one year, three months old.] Anyway, we will give it our best shot. He really needs to be out of that home. Holidays can be very stressful and I think they just don't want to work with him anymore. We will get some pictures as soon as he has settled a little.
So there you have it . . . Kris Kringle's Karma. Chester has two Guardian Angels watching over him this Holiday Season.
