A BREAK FROM THE PICTURES OF HARD-WORKING MEN . . .
The south side of the house is the only place in the entire yard where I can grow flowers. Unfortunately, it is also the BACK of the house and we rarely see it; the gate is normally locked at all times due to the dogs. These lovely lilies are very heavily-scented.
The pink flowers are mallow, the seeds of which I tossed down many years ago; they have self-seeded every fall.
Day lilies are easy to grow; buy one plant and watch them spread out. The only work to do with them is dead-heading them every day. These were dug out to make room for the planter, so I can divide them. Anyone need some lilies?? The color doesn't really go with the rest of the flowers & the house.
Filling the planter box will be a challenge, as it is completely shaded by birch trees. One can only do so much with ferns & hostas! We probably won's do much planting until fall or next spring . . . summer is NOT a good time to start new plantings. If you have any suggestions, E-MAIL me.
