In September of 2006, Sue writes:

Baby Susie Wombat is growing up

She is indeed. Baby Susie is now a (little) big girl. With all my concentration on Enzo, I have neglected to tell you of our 'other' recent rescuebaby and her progress from a frail 800 grams (back in May) to a kilogram in weight now.

On 15 July, I visited Porscha and found to my absolute delight that Baby Susie was thriving. Her first few weeks, despite Porscha's round-the-clock care, were very much touch & go. Week after week, she failed to feed properly, only the barest few millilitres of formula being taken at a time; [she] did not gain weight and slept a great deal in a doze of lethargy. Veterinary opinions varied, with even a suggestion that some kind of toxin in her blood was causing her failure to thrive. Blood samples, however, showed nothing out of the ordinary.

Whatever the cause of her fragility, there came a point one week when suddenly she woke up, showed interest in food and in her surroundings; from that moment on, [she] has not looked back. As always, Porscha gives her all, and Baby Susie is definitely wedged firmly in Porscha's heart. She travels everywhere with her devoted Mama, wrapped securely in a warm blanket pouch and bedded in a small travelling crate which goes from vehicle to office to home again.

She now weighs a little over a kilogram, roughly two & a bit pounds, and is the darlingest creature you can imagine. Just look at the photos and imagine cuddling her.

Given that she is still so young, it will be well into next year before any release will be planned. She may even decide that home is where the heart is, and like Zima, the complete House Wombat, she may never want to leave. Porscha won't mind, I know that.
