Sunday News . . .

I am adding up the dollars tonight - an incredible $460 AUD.

Some Aussies are sending me a cheque or two next week, so I think with what Bill & I will be putting in, we'll have over $500 [$390 in US dollars]. And Bill & I intend to keep a little sock fund so we can drop some $$$ to Porscha every month.

I'm hoping I will get a call from Porscha around 8 or so tonight. The fact that she has not called during the day is good . . . we agreed she would only phone then if the news was bad. So keep those paws crossed that no news is good news.

Ascha & Aerem welcome all our friends to The Burrow

It's now 9.30 p.m. on Day Four of Forrest's fight for life.

He is showing every sign of being just that - a great little fighter. Perhaps he's an Airedale in Wombat's clothing.

My conversation with Porscha tonight went something like this:

Hi ,Porscha, how are you? (Note I could barely prevent myself asking about Forrest first, Porscha second.)

Ohhhh, fine - a bit tired, but I'm just fine, she says. I'm just writing up my notes on Forrest for the day.

Ummm, how is Forrest? Is he okay?

Oh! He's just fine too, he's quite the little guzzler, he's had a total of 590 mls of formula today and I'm thinking we'll add some solids tomorrow, so he's not quite so hungry between feeds. His back is a bit itchy, but his wound is now a lot less smelly from the infection so the healing is underway, and his energy is a lot different from two days ago. Instead of falling asleep while feeding, he is staying wide awake and his bright little eyes are looking around at everything while he sucks, and he's also sitting up to feed - a really good sign. He also had a little hissy fit because I was slow getting the bottle to him !!!

So, dear friends of Forrest, there we are. Day Four already and this amazing tough little guy is showing us he's not going anywhere.

Tomorrow he sees the vet again, and he'll be weighed and checked for the infection levels. His nice brown coat is less 'staring', his eyes are bright, and his body warmth is regulating itself far better than it was.

For sure, Forrest may not yet be out of the woods, but if you all keep sending that miracle substance called Airedale Zen, I'm willing to bet nothing can withstand it.

Keep him in your prayers please, along with each and every soul who needs the kind of loving kindness you are showering upon Forrest.

I'm hoping to see Forrest again tomorrow night, so I can hand-deliver the AireZen!

Barbie Rise writes:

Just catching up on the saga of Baby Forrest, and feeling encouraged by the progress he's made! It warms my heart to see that there are such kind & giving people out there. Here's to a speedy recovery, Little Forrest, and thank you, Sue & Porscha, for your kind work. A little poem for you . . .

We're waving our paws
To a Wombat in Oz,

Who's in a land so far away,
And there it's even a whole different day!

We're sending lots of Aire-zen Amaire-ican
It's the very best Zen, proven time and again

Lately you've suffered all kinds of strife,
May light shine on you now, and into your life

It's one day at a time, and progress will be
Sure to come, thanks to your new family

A rescuer's work is never quite done,
And we're grateful to Sue & Porscha for helping this one

Because of your help a little Wombat,
Will be scurrying about in no time flat

So from Washington State in the springtime sun,
Get well soon . . . and (as they say in the movies) Run, Forrest, Run!!
