MAGGY MAY
(f/k/a SHANNON)
18 MARCH 2007

Shannon (the Person) writes:

I am loving having Shannon. Such a sweet, gentle, loving dog. I am blessed to have her! Mickeyıs nose is still a little out of joint, but he is at least looking at her & us again. He honestly slept in the chair with his back to us for almost the whole week.

I am thinking of renaming Shannon . . . Maggy with the middle name May. Just so I can use both names when she misbehaves like my mom & I did with our kids! Knew I was in BIG trouble when my dad would say, "Shannon Mary".

MM is responding a bit to her new name now. . . . I think even better then when we had Shannon as her name. There are times I have to pick her up to go outside, or come to eat, and she is real good at sitting on her pillow looking at us like we're nuts when we try to get her to come to us! I try to play with her but she hasn't a clue what that is. Mickey is not the best in that area, probably because he was an only child for so long! He will play when we initiate it though.

I love seeing the actual bounce in her step when I take her for a little walk (which I do just to keep her from sleeping). My friend has a friend who grooms dogs so she came over and trimmed MM up a bit and she looks adorable! Now it can grow out better too. She loves to be brushed, whereas Mickey growls when I open the drawer the brush is in.

She sleeps on her side, or even her back. When we try to play with her and kind of roll her over onto her back she used to fight it; now she lets us do it. She has a big pillow in the living room and one in the kitchen and that's the only place she sleeps. Joe put her on the couch next to me again tonight and she put her head on my leg which is a first! She just loves being rubbed, scratched, petted; she looks at me with such love, like she can't believe she is here with us!

Maggie May has come leaps & bounds (literally) since we got her!! When we go for a walk she just bounces because she is so happy . . . now she thinks every time I go to the door she gets to go for a walk. Not gonna happen!!

Luv

She comes running in the morning when I tell her & Mickey itıs time to eat, eats her food and then tries to eat Mickeyıs. We have the potty business down pat with no accidents in over two weeks. Joe has been putting her on the couch with me at night and now no matter when I go to sit on the couch, she puts her paws up to be picked up to sit or lie with me. She loves to snuggle behind my legs and gets really close to me, getting so affectionate now, comes running to the door tail aıwaggin' like crazy even when I just go to get the mail!! We had our 2-1/2-year-old grandson Charlie this weekend and she did awesome with him, and he with her, too.

Luv

She is still a bit timid with Joe but getting better each day. She greets him when he comes home from work but the tail is between her legs . . . she's trying though. Gives him kisses and lets him hold her on his lap. He calls her "little girl" . . . and she is stealing our hearts, but what can you do? They just kind of sneak in there, don't they? This is such an awesome experience; I don't know which of us is luckier and I will do it again!!!
