BEE AT HOME

Our life with Poppy started at the CHICAGOLAND PET EXPO.
We came in the morning and met Shell Lewis. She was wonderful and we were very impressed with the idea of rescuing a Cairn. We had a Soft-Coated Wheaten at home named Lulu, who was five years old; we thought it would be nice for her to have a brother or sister.
Shell showed us all the dogs that were at the show and we learned how the adoption process worked.
We talked about our home and which dog could work for us. Shell told us that a foster family would be in around noon with a four- or five-year-old female whom she thought might fit well into our family. We walked around the show and came back to the booth around 12:30 p.m.
It was then we met Shannon & Joe and their foster, Poppy. It was like for us at first sight. We held her and talked about how we could go about having her meet the rest of our family. I have a son Michael, who is 16 years old, and her 'sister', Lulu.
Shannon & Joe said they would bring her over to visit on Sunday. My son liked her and so did Lulu, so we started the paperwork and after a few days, we were approved. Shannon kept in close contact with me so I could hear every day how Poppy was doing. We decided at this point we were going to change her name to Bernice.
We meet Shannon & Joe halfway between Illinois & Wisconsin to pick up Bee.
She had a few days of being very afraid & shy. She spent a week or so moving only between my lap and her cage. It has now been four weeks and slowly she is making gains on becoming part of the family.
She likes her yard and she likes Lulu; she is still a little cautious of the men but working on it. She is learning to play with toys and has a little mouse she likes. She has a new red bed and you can see in the pictures that she likes it.
She seems to like to get her belly rubbed and now knows how to nuzzle; she likes to sit on her rug with her sister and get treats.
The other day we had a little setback when she went to go outside with Lulu they were racing to the door. I opened the sliding door ,but not the screen door. Bee was first to the door and decided she would open the screen for her & Lulu using her nose. Dad had to fix the screen, but everyone is OK; Lulu got so scared she peed on the floor.
Oh well, welcome to our house.
She did get a hoodie sweat shirt this week because dad said she was cold when they were out working in the yard. She wears it and seems to like it with no problem.
She does like to swing in the yard with Lulu & me on our patio swing. She is also good at guarding, and she likes to roll in the mulch
She did get wet with the hose this week and looked like she was going to die, LuLu was getting a drink from the hose, so Bee ran over and got soaked. She was looking at it again today; maybe she will give it a try again.
She is starting to nuzzle and clean me in the morning when we snuggle and is letting me rub her belly.
We want to thank everyone who helped us to get our new baby.
