Gorgeous from any angle!
Today my sister is coming over with her shepherd/lab mix, Casey, to see how that goes - my prediction is that Max will probably just lie on the patio and watch the two of them run around like the crazy dogs they are. We are also going to have a pool party, which is a common event for Casey & Fia in the summer - they are both water dogs.
Max's biggest problem is that he is really tough to get a good picture of! I took probably 50 yesterday and didn't get a single good one of his face - and he really has a beautiful face!
Not sure what Max was eating at the shelter, when he pooped yesterday it was light yellow and very soft - today was much more normal.
He really looks like an old guy when he walks, he is a little stiff, but still likes to run around the yard, although not at the breakneck pace of Fia.
He pants almost all the time - is that something I should be concerned about? This breed does not seem to like heat & humidity - my little girl started lying down in the shade during walks when it first started to get hot, so we aren't walking much now, but we play fetch in the backyard a lot and Casey comes over three or four days a week, so she gets a good run. I have three water bowls placed around the house, and one on the back patio, so there is always lots of water for them. And Alex, remember that I was concerned about Max escaping through the cats; doors? Not to worry, he doesn't fit! Which is actually a big relief.
On 28 July:
Max wasn't too interested in the pool - he sort of stood by the edge and took a sip from time to time while he watched his crazy, very water-baby sister bob for ice cubes.
Also, the initial intro of my sister's shepherd/lab mix was not a huge success, Casey is a very timid dog and didn't like Max trying to hump her. Max & Fia worked that issue out very quickly, but I think Casey was a bit more overwhelmed - we'll give them a little more time. But Max, what a guy - going after someone more than a foot taller than he is! Is that the Cairn spirit or what??
Learned something new about Mr. Max last night - he is deathly afraid of storms! I had some people over for dinner, all huge dog lovers, to meet Max. He was working the crowd for kisses & pats - all of a sudden he leaned against me and started shivering - at first we thought (there were four of us) maybe it was all the people, then we heard the first clap of thunder. Max was very happy to go to his room and spend some time in his crate - we all took turns sitting with him and he would alternate between being in the crate and leaning against whoever had Max duty.
Everything was back to normal once the storm was over.
During the evening, someone opened the front hall closet to get something, then shut the door. I hadn't seen Max for about 15 minutes, which isn't like him, so we sent out a search party - finally found him in the closet - he just stayed in there and waited to be found, not a peep out of him. Too funny! Fia would have let the whole block know if she were closed in like that, but Max is my little cave dweller, I guess.
Stay tuned for more adventures with Max; he is currently lying underneath my desk, relaxing.
