JACKIE KEEPS ON FLYIN'

SATURDAY, 2 MAY

We started the day with a flight in a CESSNA 172.

We left Bay City, headed for the Gulf Coast along the beach and returned home.

Flying over Matagorda County . . .

I had a shot at flying on the way out and on the way back.
It was just as well Dan remembered I'm colour blind;
he'd told me to head for the brown patch.
I was enroute to San Antonio: 125 mph flying at 2000'.

THE COAST: We dropped
to about 200';
I saw a fish jump out
of the water and some
of the fishermen were
holding up their fish
for me to see.

GONE FISHIN'

We were off to do some moonlight fishing,
hoping to catch tomorrow's dinner.

Dan reckoned I'd scare the fish,
I was so colour-coordinated.

He was right.

I have never had a fishing rod in my hand,
so had to learn to cast first with lures, then with shrimp.
It was quite an experience.

I caught a 9" flathead; looks like a plecky that you get in fish tanks.

Dan thought he'd caught a big one and told me to reel it in
while he netted it. Turned out to be a 20-pound shark;
it saw my outfit, bit through the line and escaped.
