Rollin' Rollin' Rollin'

Keep them doggies movin' Rawhide!
Don't try to understand 'em,
Just rope and throw and grab 'em,
Soon we'll be living high and wide.

Move 'em on, head 'em up,
Head 'em up, move 'em out,
Move 'em on, head 'em out Rawhide!
Set 'em out, ride 'em in
Ride 'em in, let 'em out,
Cut 'em out, ride 'em in Rawhide.

CATTLE DRIVE

We are supposed to be moving cattle today, a three-hour ride.
Got my cycle shorts on and ready to rock.

I chose a bad week to be here, as nearly everyone is a
seasoned visitor or rider with his/her own horse back home.
Having said that, the wranglers always make sure I'm looked after.

This morning they all left at
10.00 a.m. for a two-hour
ride to move the cattle.
I left at 11.00 with Lisa
and a new guest to join the others
on their way back with the cows.

Once we'd pushed
them through a gate,
we had to keep them
in a bunch so the calves
got back with their mothers.
It was really loud, all that mooing.
One black cow really disliked me
and tried to push out of the circle.
I turned my horse and
walked round behind the
more experienced riders.
This seemed to satisfy the cow.

The noise level reduced to murmuring
and the head wrangler said we could head for home and lunch.
I rode Felix back to the yard up to the big mounting platform
and got off him by myself. That was my big achievement today.
Well, that and getting close to cows.

The afternoon games were canceled;
a big storm was expected by 3.00 and it arrived on time.

ONCE A DOG RESCUER, ALWAYS A DOG RESCUER . . .

One of the guests had been in town and on the way back
to the ranch came across two boxers - a white and a brindle -
abandoned by the roadside.
She called Darcy, the ranch owner and brought them back
to a warm dry bed and a meal.
She is going to see if there is a rescue that will take them.
