We don't know what this was - part ruin, part church - right on the sea front. We passed it on the way back to the harbour to get the tender back to the ship.

CHURCH OF AGHIOS
NIKOLAOS OF MOLOS

The Church of Aghios [Saint] Nikolaos of Molos was founded in 1561 by the sailors guild. At first, this church was built on an island just a few metres off shore and connected to the mainland by a bridge, but slowly it became part of Zakynthos mainland with successive landfill reclamation.

The church was the only surviving Venetian building after the earthquake of 1953. The exterior of the church was restored and dressed in stone from the quarry in Gerakas.

Every year on 10 May 10, the church celebrates the passage of the relics of Aghios Nikolaos. Around 1583, Aghios Dionysios (the patron saint of Zakynthos) was a Vicar at the church of Molos. During the Feast of All Saints in June, a fete is held at the temple.
