STORM AT SEA
7-8 JULY 2009 |
We had a day at sea before reaching Venice and I watched a huge storm rolling in from the east. It was quite surreal; we just kept slicing through the water at 20 knots right into the storm, the clouds looking like a huge tsunami about to swallow us.
That night the sky was cloud-free and I sat in bed watching the lightning strike the sea in several places illuminating the night sky for as far as the eye could see. It was so fascinating I couldn't take my eyes off it. I knew I could not photograph it, so tried my video; it worked, but I will have to get rid of all the black bits between the strikes. It should be good when I get it done.
The dawn breaks over the Italian coastline, but the lovely day it suggested was just a tease . . . the storm was to return.
