Our special taxi arrived right on time. The driver was a cross between Danny DiVito & Marlon Brando of The Godfather. His accent was so strong I had trouble understanding him, so it was just as well he was a man of few words.
We were whisked off to Grand Central Station to pick up our guide.
We were quite surprised at the speed huge lorries [trucks] were driving through the city; well, through the Brooklyn Bridge area - we had to suck in the side of the van a few times. I'm so glad I didn't have to drive. The noise was also strange to us, as we live in a quiet agricultural area.
Our guide was waiting for us; Alvin Alexis from Harlem, an actor whose claim to fame was that he'd worked in Edinburgh at the Fringe Festival and he loved the place, so no problem with accents now.

We were supposed to visit Rockefeller Center, but Tom had been told he must see the American Museum of Natural History. Alvin said that was great cos it was one of his favourite places.
