Every night there was a show, or a ball,
or a play to watch. We had a
Black & White Ball
on Night 2, followed by the
Commodore's Cocktail Party
on Night 3

Nita & Kelly were the girls who helped look after Tom.
They worked two days on and two days off,
so each had seven days holiday.

Nita

You can tell they are having fun,
getting all dressed up every night for dinner.

Kelly

The girls had their Cocktails With the Commodore
on the second night, as they were Britannia Grill;
we joked that they were steerage class.
We (Queen's Grill) had ours on the third night
and were joined by the Princess Grill. The "Grill"
denoted our cabin and which restaurant we ate in.
We could eat in any; the girls could only eat in Britannia Grill
or the self-service cafés

Tom is wearing McKenzie tartan trews [trousers].
This was his regimental tartan and because it was
a lowland (not highland) regiment, they did not wear kilts.
Their pipe band wore kilts of the Erskine tartan,
which is a nice red one.

The theatre where we watched Hobson's Choice,
presented by a group from the RADA (Royal Academy of Dramatic Art);
they train all the Shakespeare-type thespians and were very good.
