Tom had an early birthday present - a contact day with a tiger at Hammerton Wildlife & Conservation Park near Peterborough. He prepared for the day by watching all the lion man programmes on TV.
We had to be there at 11.30 on 18 April; we were there at 11.00 just to make sure there were no traffic hold ups and that we did not get lost en route, as the journey took us down several tiny back roads and through quaint little villages with thatched-roof houses.
When we arrived, we went for a coffee; Tom had to sign the insurance paperwork in case the tiger mistook him for prey. Then, three keepers took us along to a little private enclosure on the edge of the tiger pen; there was a huge grassed area and a big covered barn. They called Blizzard & Belle over to the fence; the sight of a tiger running toward you is awesome . . . so much so I forgot to take a picture of it.
