MICKEY GETS GROOMED

28 AUGUST 2018

First, a progress report:

Mickey spent the night in his wire crate in my room, covered.
He cried for a few minutes, but a shake of the can with pebbles in it
soon quieted him and he slept all night through.

This morning, his tropical overalls were off, but NOT chewed
and he had stayed dry. He immediately went into the dogs' potty pen
and did ALL his business. GOOD BOY!

He had his first experience with pumpkin and Fortiflora this morning;
he gobbled them right up along with the food I feed the others;
his previous food had corn and peas in it.

Rico had a grooming
appointment today,
so I took Mickey along
to at least get his nails trimmed;
Peggy said she had time
to groom him, too,
so the others are having
a break from Mickey today . . .
he wants to play with EVERY dog,
even those who are not interested
IN THE LEAST.

SweeTea,
who is always beating up
on Gipsy, is getting a taste
of her own medicine and
she DOES. NOT. LIKE. IT.

Ph

He rode to the groomer in a VariKennel; this must have been
his first experience with an enclosed crate
(also, with a harness); he cried and screamed for a few minutes,
then pretty much settled down for the rest of the 15-minute ride.

To answer some questions you all have asked, or will ask:

1. Yes, Peggy has been battling cancer for at least half a year.

2. Yes, I think Mickey is older than four months,
but until I get the vet records, I won't know how old he really is.
HIS RECORDS SHOW HIS BIRTHDAY AS 4/19/18

3. The owners have two children and just found out that
she is again pregnant, which is why they gave him up.

4. Yes, I think he has Scottish Terrier in him, and Peggy agrees.
We'll see after his grooming today. Whatever else he may be,
he is very smart and already knows several commands;
he just needs reinforcement and focus for his energy. And attention.

We were told that he had had an ear infection, but it was over. NOT.
He is again carrying his left ear down, so I put in some Surolan,
which is what Dr. Leah uses for all the dogs' ear infections.

Doesn't he look
HANDsome??

He played all day long
with the clients;
never took a break to sleep.
He'll be tired tonight!
(Thank DOG.)

And look at the way he is
holding on to April's hand . . .
a future home
in the making, perhaps??

Ph

Mickey rode home on the front seat; he must have been REALLY tired,
'cause he sat or slept the entire trip,
even as we went thru the drive-in at Burger King.
I put the food on MY side of the car, tho, just in case.
I did stop at the Vet Clinic to weigh him (8.8 pounds)
and show him off to Dr. Leah.

Once at home, after greeting everydog and reminding them
what a PITA he could be, he went to sleep . . .

Ph

From 1 p.m. until 4 p.m is usually doggie nap time at our house . . .

Ph

. . . so Heather is sleeping nearby, Daisy is asleep under my desk,
Bonny & Gipsy are in dog beds behind me,
Rico is SNORING AWAY in another bed a few feet away,
and SweeTea is burrowed under my bed pillows.
I have no idea where Emmie is sleeping, but I know she is, too.

At 4 p.m., they all wake up and start pestering me for their dinner . . .
which has NEVER been served before 6 p.m. But they keep trying.

Mickey knows (for certain values of "knows") several commands:
sit, stay, down, come, go potty, and he knows how to use
the doggie door and the pee pads. He will just need reinforcement,
but he is one smart puppy!

Lest I think ONE puppy is difficult to manage,
imagine all the puppies born to these two rescued Airedales in Texas . . .
and ONE PERSON is taking care of them all!
