PEACHES' FIRST WEEK

Shelley & Paul Joyce write:
All seems to be progressing well. Here's the story. . .
Saturday: we arrived at her new Grandma's home for my husband to fix a faucet. She met Grandma & Aunt Kathy. Grandma loved her and Peaches seemed to take well to her. She walked on a leash, but was a little frightened when the neighbor's dog started barking.
Then we came to her new home where she met her three canine brothers. To say the least, they first startled her but within an hour she was walking on the deck with them (no leash). We had a BBQ that afternoon with some friends and neighbors . . . "a get to meet our new little girl party". She did very well with adults as well as a five-year-old girl. She had a little jealousy when the boys got near her while she was being held; that her was her first "time out" for 10 minutes.
Sunday: My children & grandsons (ages eight months to seven years) came to see her. Again . . . no problems; she was great and even walked down the deck stairs and went in the grass with her brothers. She didn't play with the children in the yard but by this day, had plenty of kisses for all of them. She is very attached to me and didn't leave my side. But with her past I didn't expect anything less than wanting all the attention & love she could get.
Monday: Her first day alone (except for the three indoor cats to keep her company) while I went to work. I leave about 5:15 a.m. and return about 3:00 p.m. She did well except that I didn't think she was Houdini. When I came home, she was out of her baby yard and was sitting on my kitchen table.
Tuesday: Same schedule . . . again she was out when I came home but still no damage or accidents. I was pleased.
On Tuesday evenings, our neighbors get together for beer & BBQ. Of course, she was invited. One couple walked her home to show her children. Peaches went with her, but was glad to be back on my lap later. She still wasn't eating her food, so I called Heidi, who suggested salmon mixed with it. That night she feasted well.
Wednesday: Same schedule but this time I out-smarted her and she remained in her baby yard. I have a large tray with newspaper in it for her to do her business and she complied well. By this evening, she was out in the yard playing with her brothers with no problem. I guess they know she's a lady and treat her that way.
Thursday: Same schedule . . . same report, except now she goes outside without me and stays with the boys for hours. Of course I can see her from the window and I talk to her from there if I'm not on the deck. Also need to add she goes up and down the deck stairs with no fear.
Friday: Same schedule. She's doing wonderfully.
Saturday: She has an appointment with the vet at 11:30 a.m. She is also scheduled for a grooming next Saturday. If you thinks she's cute now . . . JUST WAIT!!
Just a few extra notes: She walks on a leash great. She loves to ride in a car. She sleeps in her crate at night and we have never had an accident at night. I think that's wonderful. It seems she gets along with any animals. Even our neighbors brought over their dogs and she licked and played with them. I believe she will adjust to any home with some work. But I think she needs a loving female to replace me, or she may be lost.
