PRALINE
PUMPKIN PIE[S]
27 NOVEMBER 2024

I've never really liked pumpkin pie; much too bland & boring.
But as it's one of Neal's fave pies
(the other is CHOCOLATE BOURBON PECAN PIE),
I looked for something to "fancy it up"
and make it more appealing to my sweet tooth.

PRALINE

In the days before the internet, I found a praline topping
and have made it many times over the past 44 years.

Unfortunately, Neal developed a nut allergy when we moved to Florida,
so I eliminated the pecans and made what should be known as
a STREUSEL PUMPKIN PIE.

So you don't NEED to have the pecans if you'd rather not;
I haven't shopped for them for nine years,
so I've no idea how expensive they've become by now.

The filling just fits into the crusts . . .

. . . but the topping looks awf'ly sparse . . .

. . . so I make another batch of topping . . .

. . . that's much better!

The most difficult part? Getting the pies into the oven,
without spilling any (or tripping over a dog), but I did it . . .

PRALINE

Actually, I was smart this time and barricaded Emmie in my office
so she could sleep instead of pestering me.
Gipsy & SweeTea were the pesterers this time,
tho they're smart enough to stay under the table
to clean up anything that falls on the floor.

Out of the oven . . .

How'd it taste? I'm happy to say that,
even after my two previous FAILED IT!s HERE and HERE,
it tastes delicious; the crunchy topping is just the right
complement to the creamy filling. These won't last long!

I also think that I prefer the REGULAR crust
to the DEEP DISH crust for this pie,
altho for apple pie, the DEEP DISH crust works much better.
That, too, gets a streusel topping and is called, for some reason,
FRENCH APPLE PIE or DUTCH APPLE PIE

THE RECIPE I USED

The last line on the recipe should read COOL on wire rack.
