[NO-BAKE]
BOURBON OR
RUM BALLS #1
26 JULY 2023

John Kanell says:

THEY'RE NOT JUST FOR THE HOLIDAYS ANYMORE!

By the way, you can meet John Kanell HERE;
he was a math & science teacher for ten years,
which is why he always tells a bit about the science of baking.

Linda my hairdresser & I were talkin' about the 'baking' I've been doing
(she's the only person I know of who has done one of 'my' recipes -
the [NO-BAKE] CREME DE MENTHE GRASSHOPPER PIE)

She mentioned some bourbon balls a client once brought in that were very strong,
which reminded me that I had a recipe for them I'd been wanting to try.

I found that I'd tossed it some time ago,
but the PREPPY KITCHEN has a nice video & recipe HERE;
I have all the ingredient to hand, so I'll try them,
half of 'em bourbon and half of 'em rum.

As I started to do measuring and combining, however,
I realized that no way could I measure out
one-half of one-third cup of rum & bourbon;
this is why I now like to use metric measurements . . .
it's much easier to to halve or double them.

So I asked Taste Tester #1 which he'd prefer I try;
he said rum, so rum it is.

I also forgot to include sea salt and honey in this picture.
Luckily, I didn't forget them in the recipe.

As with the ALL-SPRINKLE COOKIES,
it's easier to drop a tablespoon of dough into the coating[s],
and THEN roll 'em into balls . . .

Some have chocolate jimmies AND powdered sugar;
others have powdered sugar only . . .

I can't say I was impressed with the flavor;
the NILLA™ wafer flavor came thru all the other ingredients.

However, I DID find the original recipe I had cut out and saved years ago,
so my next attempt will be with that recipe and bourbon.

Be aware that as these are not baked,
they are alcohol-infused.
EAT RESPONSIBLY!

THE RECIPE I USED

* Add two extra tablespoons of rum for an extra kick
and to help bring the dough together if it's dry
.

* Roll the balls in the coating[s] right after they're formed.
If the outside dries, they will not pick up as much coating.

* For chocolate coating, melt 1/2 cup chocolate with a
teaspoon of coconut oil (optional). Use a toothpick to dip
the balls in the chocolate, tap off the excess and set on a wire rack.

* Light corn syrup or agave nectar can be used in place of honey.

* This recipe would be an amazing sub in for cookie crusts.
