CHOCOLATE COBBLER
[LAVA CAKE]
26 AUGUST 2023

I've been wanting to make a
NAVEL ORANGE MERINGUE PIE,
but it's been so humid and RAINY,
I knew trying to make a meringue ANYthing
would result in another FAILED IT!.

I looked thru my "FOR FUTURE" folder,
and decided to make this
CHOCOLATE COBBLER [LAVA CAKE] . . .

CHOCOLATE

. . . at least, it looks like a LAVA CAKE to me.

Be forewarned: this Southern MeMe is quite annoying;
I resorted to Closed Captioning to go thru the video
a second time to get the ingredient measurements.

CHOCOLATE

In loyalty to my Dutch birth,
I've always used DROSTE™ cocoa;
a cyberfriend sent me this GHIARDELLI™ cocoa,
and I thought this a good time to try it.

While a stick of butter was melting in the 9" x 13" baking pan
(I chose to put it in the preheating oven, rather than the microwave),
I mixed together the first set of dry ingredients . . .

CHOCOLATE

. . . remembered to take out the melting butter before it burned . . .

CHOCOLATE

. . . and "poured" the first layer of batter over the butter . . .

CHOCOLATE

Well, that was the theory.
However, the batter never became "pourable",
even after I added quite a bit more heavy cream.
I figured these "islands" would soften in the oven,
but realized I'd have to add to the baking time
to account for the extra liquid.

Next layer, sugar & cocoa . . .

CHOCOLATE

I highly recommend SIFTING the flour & the cocoa.

. . . covering the "islands" with the sugar/cocoa mixture . . .

CHOCOLATE

. . . which definitely improves their looks . . .

CHOCOLATE

. . . and then pouring boiling water over it all,
which felt like a weird thing to do . . .

CHOCOLATE

I added 10 minutes to the baking time . . .

CHOCOLATE

. . . and it doesn't look too bad.

The taste was pretty good,
altho I thought the chocolate tasted a littlle "watery".
It certainly wasn't as strong as I thought it would be.
And it DEFinitely needed whipped cream,
or ice cream if that's your preference.

Wouldn't THIS be convenient . . .

BEHIND

. . . and I'll bet she never washed her own dishes, either!
