POTATOES, POTATOES,

POTATOES, HAM
& EGGS BAKE
13 NOVEMBER 2023

So long as the word BAKE is in the recipe.
I'll try it, even if it IS an actual meal.
So here is . . . POTATOES, HAM & EGGS BAKE . . .

POTATOES,

So here I am, less than a month
from my 75th year upon this Planet Earth,
and I have never worked with potatoes. Ever.

Oh, I once tried to make potato pancakes,
as I'd married into a Lithuanian family.
My BIL, who always tried to be kind, said,
"Yum. Crunchy pancakes."
Or was he being sarcastic? One never knew with him.

Anyway, I guess I skipped a step.
Who knows . . . but I never tried THAT again!
Nor anything else involving potatoes.

(I used to make a delicious spinach quiche, tho.
I might have to try making that again.)

Putting-it-all-together station . . .

POTATOES,

I had thought to make a half recipe,
but changed my mind when I brought out my springform pan
and realized it was deeper than I'd thought,
so you'll have to visualize SIX eggs.

As for the turmeric: I happened to have this
for the orchids I am trying to revitalize
(which you can read about HERE).
I took one sniff of this spice,
and decided that it might be good for orchids,
but it wasn't going into this bake.

Three things I was NOT looking forward to doing:
1) washing the potatoes;
2) peeling the potatoes; and
3) slicing the potatoes evenly.

Neal brought home these thrice-pre-washed potatoes,
with edible skin . . .

POTATOES,

Not quite 2.2 pounds, but this'll have to do.

Then, my 40-plus-year-old
Cuisinart™ did the slicing for me,
so the slices were of uniform thickness
and all in less than one minute,
with no divots and no cut fingers.

POTATOES,

A beautiful sight . . .

POTATOES,

Gipsy & SweeTea stayed on the couch . . .

POTATOES,

. . . SweeTea is under the couch cover;
you can just see her tail to the left of the pillow.
(No matter how tightly we tuck in the covers,
one or the other [or both] manage to get under them.)

POTATOES,

Neal had just left to run some errands,
so they were awaiting his return.

SweeTea: Did I hear the click of a camera?
Are we gonna be on a webpage?? AGAIN???

POTATOES,

SweeTea looks bedraggled 'cause she had seven teeth extracted
on Thursday and is still on painkillers . . .

POTATOES,

And where is Emmie? In my office,
on (not in) the smallest bed available . . .

POTATOES,

I think she didn't realize I was in the kitchen,
or she'd've been trying to "help".

I spent about15-20 minutes frying the potato slices
"until half cooked". What that means, I've no idea;
wouldn't something have to be completely cooked
before you know where half-cooked is?

Also: "Add salt & pepper to taste".
HOW would I know what the taste is
until it's done and I taste it?

This is why I prefer to bake; less confusing instructions!
